The first season of Boston Blue is working to wrap up its first season. It has been good in the ratings and has dealt with topics that seemed right out of current events. The latest episode did just that.

The episode, which aired Friday, May 8, dealt with a stalker and possible issues involving women's basketball. It is very topical considering the rise in popularity in the sport and issues stemming from it.

In "Personal Foul," Danny and Lena work on catching the stalker of a popular player. The WNBA and the NCAA are dealing with numerous problems currently, and the issue involving a stalker has unfortunately become all too real.

Popular players in the professional league, the WNBA, such as Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham, have dealt with stalking incidents this past year as their profiles have become higher. Luckily, in real life, like in Boston Blue, the police were able to take care of the situations that have arisen quicker than in the episode. It was great to see Boston Blue shine a light on what women in sports have to deal with in their field, and the show did a solid job of spotlighting the toll it takes on the players.

During the crime drama, they also deal with jealousy among the players. This is a common issue in the sport that is occurring right now.

Despite Clark's immense popularity, she has been shown a lot of resentment and anger towards her rising profile by players in the league. It can be dangerous and has led to a lot of negative discourse online and at games.

Boston Blue also focused on characters dealing with gambling issues. One actor guest stars in NBA champion John Salley as a dad in over his head with gambling debts.

This is a growing problem in both the NCAA and WNBA. With gambling now becoming legal, the college organization and every league are promoting the industry more and more. It could and has led to players getting harassed and the rumors of possibly shaving points or averages off the game, and Boston Blue did a great job of tackling the issue through the episode in showing the impact it can have on players and those close to them.

Crime dramas have always taken stories from headlines around the world and the country. It has allowed the series and networks to keep viewer interest despite the episodic nature of some of these shows. The parent series to Boston Blue, Blue Bloods and Law & Order: SVU are very popular, taking on this type of trend.

As Boston Blue enters its final episodes of the first season, it will be interesting to see if they have any other episodes with current event storylines. It has been renewed for a second season and may also be adopting this strategy for the fall of 2026.
