After taking a week off, Hugh Dancy’s Price is back in action in this week’s new Law & Order, and it seems like he’s got quite the complicated case on his hands.
Law & Order season 25, episode 19, “Accidentally Like a Martyr,” finds Price and Maroun facing an uphill battle in the courtroom when the defense presents two viable suspects in the murder of a young woman from a famous family whose body is discovered on her birthday.
In our exclusive first look at the episode, Price and Maroun sit down with the victim’s parents, Evan and Sophia Cole (guest stars Eric Stoltz and Alicia Minshew), and her husband, Lucas (Kyle Harris), to break some unfortunate news to the group. It seems the judge has deemed their prime suspect’s confession inadmissible, as it came after he had already asked for a lawyer.
As Evan questions whether the confession’s inadmissibility impacts the standing of their case against the suspect on trial, Price assures him that they’re still in a good position as Lucas inquires about whether they have any idea why the suspected killer targeted his wife.
“He was obsessed. He had 30 framed photos of Angela in his apartment; he followed her every move on social media,” Price explains of the killer’s motive.
That’s when things get heated as Lucas confronts Evan about how they’d been trying to tell him how dangerous sharing his life with the public is. Tensions rise as the pair point the finger over who is to blame, with Evan alleging that Lucas was the one who left the party and therefore at fault, as Lucas refutes that Evan was the one who just had to post the video of them dancing, which led the killer right to Angela. As Lucas makes it clear this is on Evan and his emotions get the best of him, Price and Maroun show him out of the room before things get further out of hand.
It's clear that while Price feels confident in the case, things could be getting interesting for Price and Maroun as they navigate all of the finger-pointing happening between the victim's loved ones. We'll be interested in seeing how the case unfolds in the episodes, but the trailer for the episode suggests there could be a bigger mystery to be explored.
There is even one moment in the promo's in which Price directly asks Evan if he's trying to help his daughter's killer, hinting that there is more to this story!
