Marshals actors reveal whether or not they return for season 2

The first season finale of Marshals put a couple of characters in harm's way so will they be back for season 2?

The first season finale of the Yellowstone spinoff was literally explosive. Kayce (Luke Grimes) turned down an offer by Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey) to sell East Camp and continue with the Marshals. The team was thrown when they learned Cruz (Ash Santos) seemed set to take a new assignment in Washington, D.C. They were distracted by a massive attack on East Camp to kill Chairman Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) that led to a major firefight.

It looked to be settled by the apparent suicide of ringleader Nathan Irons, but Cruz found a possible lead. Belle (Arielle Kebbel) and Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) followed up on it only to find themselves under fire. It was the work of Tom Weaver, the real architect of all this, and Kayce had no idea his “friend” was out to steal his land.

Obviously, fans are worried about this cliffhanger, meaning some actors may be written out of the show. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter following the episode, Marshall-Green and Kebbel were quick to point out that they’re already filming season 2 and expected to return.

“I can confirm [Cal] is alive, but not necessarily unscathed,” Marshall-Green teased. “I think I can confirm that for everybody in the damn show, because everybody’s going through it by the end of this thing. I’m hours away of shooting [season 2, episode 1]. I can tell you that we’re all going through things — without giving anything away.”

Kebbel likewise confirmed, “I am a part of season 2, yes. We start filming [season 2] with a pickup of that [finale] moment. My head is so deep into season 2 already.”

That only covers the two characters with Cruz up in the air whether she’s leaving or not. However, it sounds like Santos is sticking around, and it makes sense that Cruz decides she can’t leave her team hanging like this and turns down the D.C. job to stay in Wyoming.

The Devil at Home

Both characters had a lot happening to them in the show’s first season. Despite coming from a wealthy family, Belle’s gambling addiction had her thousands of dollars in debt and she kept it quiet. Meanwhile, Cal learned he has a rare form of muscle cancer and is wrestling with that affecting his career. Season 2 will likely focus on both those plotlines, as Belle may be tempted to go to extreme lengths to pay off her debts while Cal keeps working despite his diagnosis.

Marshall-Green hinted that he’s looking forward to tackling Cal’s struggle in season 2. “Now — where is the story juiciest, now that we’re dealing with a subject matter like cancer? I don’t wanna sugarcoat it. I don’t want kid gloves on. I don’t want a safe approach. I want Cal to go through it, because I think that is the duty to these men and women who come back from uniform.”

Both actors expressed gratitude for the audience making the show a hit with Kebbel saying, “I’m really grateful that we’re building momentum and have an audience, and I’m really grateful that we have so many crew coming back from season 1 to season 2 so we all get to go, ‘We’re in this together.'”

Thus, it sounds like Marshals won’t be losing cast members for season 2, but that doesn’t mean things are going to get easier for the cops!
