Michele Weaver's deputy Cassidy Campbell has been missing in action for multiple episodes of Sheriff Country, leaving fans to wonder whether Weaver exited the show unexpectedly after her character's brush with death.

As fans will recall, episode 14 ended with Cassidy being hit with a stun gun from behind while walking into her home. We come to learn in episode 15 that Cassidy had been abducted by serial killer Ellis Munroe, the same man who had abducted and killed Cassidy's sister years ago. Thankfully, Mickey and the team were able to get to Cassidy in time to save her life, as well as the life of Ellis' latest victim.

After the ordeal, Cassidy decided to take a road trip with her mother, and that road trip has turned out to be much longer than many fans expected. Following her appearance in episode 15, we haven't seen Cassidy on the show since bringing about what has been a month-long hiatus. The extended hiatus left many fans to worry if that was an exit storyline for Weaver, and, in a sense, it was.

Michele Weaver missed several episodes of Sheriff Country season 1 due to her pregnancy

It turns out that the road trip Cassidy went on with her mom was indeed designed as an exit storyline for Michele Weaver, but only a temporary one. As Weaver revealed on Instagram, she left the show after episode 15 to go on maternity leave following the birth of her second child, a baby girl.

"People keep asking if I was written off. Nope... just had to leave to have a baby," Weaver revealed via Instagram, showing off her baby bump on the set.

Knowing that Weaver would miss several episodes of the show, the writers crafted a storyline that would allow the character's absence to be explained and give Weaver the needed time away from the show. The road trip allowed them to give Cassidy a temporary exit ahead of Weaver's return in the penultimate episode of season 1, airing May 15.

As for why the storyline was not written into the show, it honestly makes sense, as Cassidy has not had a love interest thus far this season, nor has the character been on a journey of wanting to start a family. Given how out of place a pregnancy storyline would be for Cassidy, the show chose not to write Weaver's pregnancy into the show and instead hid her pregnancy through camera framing and wardrobe selections.

We'll see what the final episodes of the season bring for Cassidy upon her return and look forward to seeing what season 2 will bring for the character!
