As television fans, one of the frequent downsides about watching and loving so many shows on broadcast networks is that many of them end up getting canceled. You can fall in love with a new show, but sometimes shows can end after only one, two, or three seasons, before a wider audience can start watching. And then, it can be hard to track those shows down for a streaming renaissance.

However, in recent years, it's becoming more and more frequent for past small screen hits (and misses) to make their way to Netflix. No shade to other streaming services, but Netflix remains one of the most powerful tools for underrated series to have a renewed moment in the spotlight. Finally, that spotlight will shine on La Brea, NBC's cult favorite series that's coming to the streamer very soon.

La Brea coming to Netflix in the United States in May 2026

As first reported by What's on Netflix, Netflix has officially set a release date for all three seasons of La Brea in the United States. Beginning on Friday, May 1, 2026, fans old and new will be able to stream every episode of the once promising sci-fi sensation. The news comes after the series has been available to stream in various Netflix markets around the world apart from the States.

Currently, only two out of three seasons of La Brea are available to stream on Peacock. While the third and final season had been available on NBC's streamer in the past, it's no longer on the service as of April 2026. If you haven't been able to watch the final season, or have been persuaded against binge-watching the show because it's not on Peacock in full, here's your chance to finally watch.

The sci-fi drama series from creator David Appelbaum made its premiere on NBC back in September 2021 and debuted with a promising start. La Brea centers on a group of Los Angeles residents who are tragically swept up into a sinkhole that opens near the La Brea Tar Pits. While the city and their loved ones are left to assume that those who fell in died, they were actually transported to the past.

Once underground and reunited, the group realizes that they have somehow landed back in time to 10,000 BC. They are in the same location in Los Angeles, only without any modern advancements. The spacetime portal has dropped them into a time with woolly mammoths and other prehistoric threats. Suddenly, they are trapped and need to find a way to return home.

The cast includes Natalie Zea, Eoin Macken, Chiké Okonkwo, Zyra Gorecki, Jack Martin, Veronica St. Clair, Rohan Mirchandaney, Lily Santiago, Jon Seda, Josh McKenzie, Nicholas Gonzalez, and Tonantzin Carmelo, along with an extensive recurring and guest cast.

It's by far one of NBC's most ambitious series of the 2020s decade and pulls some inspiration from other mystery series like Lost and Manifest. But the prehistoric setting is particularly unique, as are the set of circumstances that the characters go through. The mythology involves twists that you will never see coming, and by season 3, they're dealing with dinosaurs.

La Brea becomes the latest show hailing from NBC to make its way to Netflix. Current NBC hits Happy's Place and St. Denis Medical landed on Netflix in April, and other NBC series like The Hunting Party, The Blacklist, Blindspot, and others have found success on the streamer. It's a continued extension of Netflix's positive relationship with NBCUniversal. Hopefully, more are to come.
