NCIS: Origins season 3 is just weeks away, and we have some information on at least one question that has been burning from the very beginning. Why has Leroy Jethro Gibbs avoided talking about Cecilia “Lala” Dominguez, especially since they kissed in the season 2 finale?
TV Insider revealed in a profile of the series that there would be answers about Lala and why she remained a mystery in the original series. Harmon was even quoted as saying, “I look forward to finding out what that is.”
Showrunner David J. North revealed that season 3 would give fans answers as to “why Gibbs has never mentioned Lala."
Throughout the 20 years Harmon was on NCIS, we saw Gibbs have multiple relationships, but he never mentioned any other woman in his life. Of course, knowing Gibbs, he is good at keeping mum about deeply personal things. His team didn’t know about his deceased wife, Shannon, until a few years into the show.
One of Gibbs’s famous rules was also mentioned, that being Rule 12. The rule says, “Never date a coworker,” and since he hasn’t made all of his rules yet, we wonder if Lala has anything to do with that decision. However, their relationship status in season 3 is being kept quiet for now after they shared that big kiss before Lala was prepared to move away.
When season 3 begins, Gibbs will return from Alaska after his peaceful retirement is interrupted by ghosts from the past. Fans will see him reunite with some familiar faces, including forensics analyst Woody, played by Bobby Moynihan.
In fact, episode 2 will see the team in 1992 working to clear Woody’s name in an investigation. Apparently, Woody will owe Gibbs a favor, which the present-day Gibbs comes to collect.
Now, just because we find out why Gibbs doesn’t talk about Lala, does that mean the mystery of what happened to her will be revealed? We’ll just have to wait and see, but we’re excited to find out!
Season 3 of NCIS: Origins will premiere with the team fighting hard to find their teammate, Randy, who was abducted because of his work in digitizing NCIS case files. The team will rally together, and according to North, “It’s all hands on deck to find this guy.”
With only 10 episodes, there will be a lot happening, so we’re looking forward to seeing what the show can put together in a short season. For now, until the premiere, you can watch previous episodes on Paramount+ to refresh your memory.
