The NCIS: Origins season 2 finale found the team dealing with a possible office shutdown as the team looked into a case involving the murder of two teenage brothers. They had gone to break into a warehouse storing wine and were killed. Find out how Abe Pruitt was connected to the murders.

The two boys had a mother in the Marines, and she had reported them missing that night. Unfortunately, the team found them dead and engaged in a shootout with multiple members of Flacco’s cartel. They questioned one of the men, but he refused to say much about their involvement.

The NCIS: Origins season 2 finale brought back a familiar foe

To obtain information about who owned the warehouse, they called the FBI and convinced Agent Swanson to allow Manny to call from witness protection to give them some intel. He told Lala that their guy had a son who was the victims’ ages. As they talked, Lala revealed what was happening at work, and he offered for her to come to his city so they could be together. Gibbs was later concerned to find out she wanted to quit NIS.

Franks got him to reveal that they had been called to steal the wine, and when the boys broke in, the owner shot them. It turned out to be Abe Pruitt, who had recently gone on a radio show to call his followers to a new sanctuary.

Phil called them from forensics to tell them that among all of the wine barrels that had been shot, only one was leaking small amounts of wine. It turned out to be weapons that Pruitt was smuggling that needed to be assembled.

As they were investigating, Lala noticed an SUV was following her. She had seen it outside of NIS, the forensics lab, and now the warehouse. In the midst of this, Swanson arrived to tell the team about how Flacco had taken over Rico Luna’s fleet of trucks, which were now being used to transport the smuggled weapons.

At a standstill, the team relied on the rest of their colleagues to help them figure out where Abe Pruitt was hiding. They had established a Brain Trust to work on figuring out how to keep the office open, but spent all night determining that Pruitt actually was trying to take back the original compound before the new owners could fully take over operations.

The FBI and NIS went to the compound, but things got complicated when they discovered Pruitt had hostages, including Mason. Eventually, the FBI moved in, and they were able to stop Pruitt. When one of his followers tried to shoot Mason, Gibbs took the bullet to the vest to save him.

With Pruitt in custody and the case solved, the team now had to worry about the office. They actually came up with the idea to rebrand the agency to NCIS to focus on solving criminal cases in the area to show people they cared about solving crimes. Wheeler spoke with Director Tom Morrow, who liked the idea, and the office was saved.

NCIS: Origins season 2 ends with a cliffhanger that leaves a team member in danger

This was a relief for the team, although Gibbs was upset to learn Lala was leaving. However, as he was preparing to go to a crime scene, he decided to go find her, and she appeared as he got to her door. She had wanted him to tell her to stay, and so they did, and they shared a kiss.

What they didn’t know at the time was that Randy had been abducted by the person in the SUV who Lala thought was following her. According to older Gibbs, it had to do with the cases he was digitizing. Now that we have movement on Lala and Gibbs, only time will tell what would eventually lead to Gibbs never wanting to talk about her. Plus, will Randy be found safe? Since we don't know if he is alive in the present, there's no telling what will happen.

We will have to wait until season 3 when NCIS: Origins returns in the fall 2026. For now, you can rewatch the season on Paramount+.
