The NCIS: Origins season 3 trailer is officially here, and there is a lot of ground to cover. What kind of tidbits do we find out about season 3, and who else from the original squad will we see in the present with Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs?
Season 3 will return with the episode “Don’t You Forget About Me,” which will find Mark Harmon returning as Gibbs, whose peaceful retirement is interrupted. As per the synopsis, ghosts from the past catch up to Gibbs as the 1992 version of Gibbs and co. work to rescue Agent Bernady “Randy” Randolf, while Gibbs’s steamy kiss with Cecilia “Lala” is also dealt with.

In the trailer, we find out almost immediately that one mystery will be solved. It involves Randy, who was abducted at the end of the Season 2 finale. We immediately learn his fate, but then the agents face a new problem. A remark is made that there is apparently a Russian spy in the NCIS office, and it seems to tie into why Gibbs returns to the job.
Gibbs is in Alaska when he is apparently under attack, and he ends up going back to finish a job that he thought was over. The trailer shows Gibbs talking with Bobby Moynihan’s Woodrow “Woody” Browne. We already knew Woody was alive and well when he made a recent appearance on the original NCIS to help on a cold case.
Along with forensic scientist Phil Elertson, he is the only character we have seen so far in the present. Will we learn more about other characters we have not heard from?
The trailer shows Gibbs speaking with Woody, telling him he “owes him” something. We’re looking forward to seeing Woody interact with Harmon’s Gibbs, especially since there is more history between the two in the present tense that audiences still do not know about.
Along with learning about Randy’s fate and what brings Gibbs back from Alaska, we also see that at this point, the younger Gibbs and Cecilia “Lala” Dominguez are now in a relationship. However, based on Gibbs nervously explaining why his shirt buttons are ripped off, they are clearly trying to keep this quiet.
As exciting as it is to see them navigating this new aspect of their relationship, we know that things won’t end well. But for now, we’re looking forward to seeing how Lala and Gibbs navigate this new era in their lives.
