NCIS season 23 is fast approaching its finish line, but it seems the writers aren’t quite ready to stop throwing curveballs the NCIS agents’ way!
The eighteenth episode of the season, “Bad Impressions,” will see the NCIS team racing to help clear the name of one of their own. Interestingly, CBS has kept the identity of the team member whose future is going to be put on the line under wraps, but we do know that whoever is at the center of the storyline will be framed for murder. That’s right, it seems that someone is about to be framed for murder, and the rest of the team is going to do all they can to clear their name before it’s too late.
This storyline is going to be an extension of the one that began in episode 17, which certainly makes us wonder if it’s Kasie who could be framed for murder.
Episode 17 saw Kasie overseeing a high-security update of the NCIS systems that spiraled into a murder investigation after one of the tech members brought on to assist with the update was murdered. While Parker, Jimmy, and Sam were able to find the killer, they weren’t able to stop the cyberattack at the root of the murder, which led to the theft of a computer program called Edna, which Kasie had created.
Given that it was Kasie’s program that was stolen and this frame-up seems to be connected to a widening conspiracy that could compromise national security, we have to wonder if Kasie will be the one framed for murder. That would make sense considering it was her program that was stolen; however, we have a sneaking suspicion it might actually be McGee who is framed for the crime.
While we see McGee in the promo for the episode huddled up with Jess, Torres, and Sam in Kasie’s lab as she explains the origins of the program, he’s conspicuously missing from the photos for the episode. There are so many photos from the episode released by CBS that see Sam, Torres, Jess, and Parker out in the field, but only one photo from the episode features a shot of McGee. This hints that the reason he’s not in the promotional materials is because including him in the promo photos would give it away that he’s the one who comes under investigation for murder.
It’s common for a character to be missing from photos and promotional materials if they’re part of a key storyline in an episode that is being kept under wraps. After all, the last thing a network wants to do is spoil a plot twist before the episode by releasing a photo that reveals what is coming. That said, sometimes saying nothing can also speak volumes, and in this instance, we certainly are wondering if McGee’s absence in the episode 18 photos is connected to him being the one framed.
We’ll find out when the episode airs on April 28 at 8/7c on CBS!
