NCIS season 23, episode 18, “Bad Impressions," kept the show’s streak of amazing guest performers going with more than a few familiar faces dropping in across the episode as part of the episode’s guest cast.
Leading the guest cast for the episode was LL Cool J, who returned as Special Agent Sam Hanna in what was the second of his two-episode guest arc. Sam played a key role in the episode, helping to clear Kasie’s name when she was framed for murder following the theft of her forensic program, EDNA. It was great seeing Sam back in action working alongside the NCIS team, and it was really fun getting to see him play off Kasie throughout the episode – one that proved to be a major Kasie episode.
Playing a pivotal role in Kasie’s story in the episode was Agents of SHIELD star Briana Venskus, who guest starred as Joanna, Kasie’s old roommate from college. We’d come to find out that Kasie and Joanna were more than just roommates, and our hope is that we haven’t seen the last of Joanna after she and Kasie mended fences and reconnected through the case.
Venskus is perhaps best known for playing Agent Piper on ABC's Marvel's Agents of SHIELD over the course of the show's final four seasons. In addition to her role on Agents of SHIELD, you might also recognize Venskus from playing DEO Agent Vasquez on Supergirl and for playing Beatrice on The Walking Dead.
Also guest starring in the episode was Benito Martinez as Detective Conklin, the detective leading the murder investigation. that Kasie was framed for. Martinez is no stranger to the world of television, having most notably played Gabriel Reyes on 911: Lone Star. He's also made recent guest appearances on a handful of hit series, including Doc, Tracker, Law & Order, and FBI.
The episode also featured a few returning guest players from episode 17, reprising their roles from the previous episode as the storylines carried over into episode 18. This included Noah Bean (Nikita, 12 Monkeys, Ballard) as DOD Chief David Barbardo, Josh Banday (Upload, Not Dead Yet) as techie Harold Goodell, and Geoffrey Arend (Madame Secretary, Body of Proof) as janitor Tommy Manning.
Rounding out the guest cast in varying supporting roles were Sanjit De Silva (Inventing Anna, Evil), Judson Mills (Quantum Leap, Fallout), Yevgeniy Kartashov (American Horror Story, The Rookie: Feds), and Rachel Coopes (Mommy, It Hurts, Where’s Daddy?).
