NCIS season 24 premiere date confirmed with CBS bringing NCIS shows back earlier than expected

It seems NCIS fans won't have to wait as long as expected for NCIS season 24, with CBS bringing the show and its spinoffs back earlier than many predicted.

Let the countdown to NCIS season 24 begin! CBS has officially confirmed the next season of its longest-running primetime drama will premiere on Tuesday, October 6, at 8/7c!

NCIS fans, the clock is ticking,” the cast teased in a new promo announcing the show’s return, which debuted during the 90-minute Big Brother 28 premiere. “We’ll be back this fall with more NCIS.”

The promo wove together footage from the most recent season rather than debuting new footage from the upcoming season, but the tradeoff was getting confirmation of when exactly the new season will begin.

The October 6 premiere date is earlier than fans expected, as CBS did not bring the NCIS shows back until mid-October last year. In fact, we have to go back to season 20’s release in 2022 to find a year when NCIS kicked off its new season before the second week of October!

It’s not just NCIS that will be returning on October 6. During the 90-minute Big Brother 28 premiere, CBS also announced the newest addition to the franchise will also kick off its run on Oct. 6. The LL Cool J and Scott Caan-led NCIS: New York will debut directly after the NCIS season 24 premiere at 9/8c on CBS.

Interestingly, CBS has not yet released a promo for the upcoming third season of NCIS: Origins, but it seems safe to assume it will also kick off its new season on October 6. NCIS: Origins moves to 10 p.m. this fall for what will be its shortest season yet. This shortened season is by design so that NCIS: Sydney can take over the time slot at midseason, with a 10-episode season of its own.

It’s going to be an interesting fall for NCIS fans, and that might be an understatement. Not only will we be getting a new addition to the franchise in NCIS: New York and seeing reduced seasons for NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney, but the new seasons will also be bringing back a few familiar faces.

Mark Harmon is slated to return on-screen in every episode of NCIS: Origins season 3, while Michael Weatherly will be coming back to NCIS as Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo for a season-long arc. Details about Harmon and Weatherly's roles in the shows are being kept under wraps at the moment, but regardless of how they factor into the respective seasons of NCIS: Origins and NCIS, it's going to be exciting to see the two original stars back on screen in sizable roles.

There are exciting things ahead for the franchise this fall, and now we know we won't have to wait quite as long for NCIS to return to the lineup.

NCIS season 24, NCIS: New York season 1, and NCIS: Origins season 3 will premiere on Tuesday, October 6, on CBS!
