NCIS showrunner talks problems with bringing McGee and Delilah's twins back in
NCIS fans may finally get to see McGee’s twins on screen, although they may look a lot different!
It’s almost become a running joke among NCIS fans how Tim McGee (Sean Murray) and his wife Delilah’s (Margo Harshman) twins are practically ghosts on the show. The pair have had a great marriage, including Tim supporting Delilah after a terrorist bombing put her in a wheelchair in Season 11. They were married in Season 14, with the next year confirming Delilah was pregnant with twins.
In Season 15’s “Ready or Not,” Delilah went into labor with Tim at her side. This being NCIS, things got complicated as a wanted suspect took hostages in the hospital, forcing Tim to stop him while protecting his wife.
In the end, things turned out great, with Delilah giving birth to a son, John (named after his dad), and a daughter, Morgan. However, that’s been the only time the kids have appeared on-screen. They are constantly talked about as Tim will discuss the challenges of fatherhood and a constant humorous subplot will be him distracted by the kids’ antics. There’s even been an episode of Tim bonding with a fellow dad from his kids’ school and jarred the other dads don’t consider him “cool.”
The twins themselves are absent from the screen, and fans are joking about how they barely seem to exist. As it happens, there’s a good reason for that.
Where are McGee’s kids in NCIS?
Speaking to TVLine, showrunner Steven D. Binder revealed plans to show the twins on screen kept getting delayed with little reason to bring them in. However, the real reason for the absence was the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the filming protocols, having little kids on set was a big no-no.
That has faded, yet there remains an issue in that the kids would now be about seven years old. Thus, we may see new actors.
"Even when we brought Jimmy Palmer’s daughter on [in February 2022], we had to magically age her a little bit. Now she’s older than McGee’s kids, so do we age McGee’s kids?"
NCIS has done a few time jumps of several months to explain the length between seasons so it’s logical the kids are now in grammar school. Binder revealed there are plans for a Christmas episode, so maybe we’ll see the twins at a big gathering while Tim is hunting for the right present for them.
So NCIS fans have an explanation for where the twins have been, and hopefully, we see them on screen soon.
NCIS Season 22 premieres Monday October 14 at 8/7c on CBS.
