Now that summer is upon us, there is no better time to revisit classic series you might have missed when they were initially airing. In fact, I’m currently deep in several binge watches of iconic shows myself that I missed when they were airing, including The Bold Type, 2 Broke Girls, and even The Sopranos—I know, it’s criminal to have not watched The Sopranos before 2026, but that’s the beauty of streaming; it gives you that chance to watch hits you missed before.
While it can be hard to find time for binge-watches during the regular season when there are so many hit shows airing nightly, summer is perfect for revisiting classic hits, and Netflix is about to become home to one of CBS’s best crime dramas!
On June 1, Netflix will be adding the first five seasons of Hawaii Five-0 to its collection, and this is a show that we’re certain Netflix fans will enjoy.
The series stars Alex O’Loughlin as former Navy SEAL Steve McGarrett, who is tapped by the governor to lead a new task force: the Five-0. After accepting the job, McGarrett assembles a ragtag group that includes Danny Williams (Scott Caan), a former New Jersey officer who moves to Hawaii to be closer to his daughter Grace; Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim), a decorated HPD cop who was wrongly accused of crimes he didn’t commit; and Kono Kalakaua (Grace Park), Chin Ho’s cousin who is fresh out of the police academy.
Hawaii Five-0 is much like your standard broadcast procedural in following the usual case-of-the-week type format, but it’s one of those shows that brilliantly blends together humor with crime fighting. McGarrett and Danny’s bromance is iconic and one of the best to have ever been done on TV, and the show features an amazing ensemble of characters fans will quickly come to love. The show also does a brilliant job of celebrating Hawaii and its breathtaking scenery, setting the show apart from the rest of the very crowded room of procedurals out there to choose from.
This is a show that fans of Netflix hits such as The Night Agent, The Lincoln Lawyer, and The Recruit will all enjoy, and I say this as a fan who has watched all four series. There are definitely similar vibes between the shows, namely with how they blend humor into the shows and have the perfect mix of action.
It is important to note that Netflix is only adding the first five seasons of Hawaii Five-0 on June 1, and it's unclear whether there are plans to add the show’s later seasons. If you begin watching Hawaii Five-0 on Netflix and end up watching all five seasons before the final five seasons are added, the good news is that seasons 6-10 can be found on Paramount+.
