There are some newer members of the Night Court family that certainly feel like they were Ogs. Nyambi Nyambi’s Wyatt Shaw is one of them.

We had the chance to talk with Nyambi about his character. He’s a jack of all trades and master of none, and you never know what he’s going to get up to next. However, Wyatt certainly has a dream, and that’s something we talked about in this exclusive interview.

Hidden Remote: I feel like you’ve been here from the beginning, and I have to remind myself that you haven’t. What’s it been like for you coming into the series, and does it feel like you’ve been here forever?

Nyambi Nyambi: Thank you! It feels great. For me, it’s all about celebrating the moment, working on what’s in front of me and having as much fun with not just the moment but the people around me that are sharing this moment we have. If I’m there for three episodes, great, but if I’m there for three years or six years in some cases, even better.

It’s not really about what I’m bringing. All I can bring is myself; that’s all I can control. It’s really been about the people around me. Melissa Roach has been an amazing leader. John Larroquette has been generous. Lacretta has been incredible. Now we have Wendie Malick, and she’s been amazing.

It’s been great having Gary Anthony Williams as well. Gary’s an old friend, and just having his energy! I love when he’s on set, because he’s just a ball of joy. You never know what he’s gonna say or do.

I feel like I’m getting to do this with true friends.

HR: I describe Wyatt as a jack of all trades and master of none. Is there a specific job he’s done that you love the most on screen?

NN: Well, the job he’s doing right now. There’s the hope that one day Wyatt will be a lawyer because he’s in law school. You may perhaps see that at some point later on.

But, I mean, working at the roller rink, working Trader Joes, working as a stage manager at a shadow puppet theater—that might have been my favorite! It was just short-lived. We weren’t getting the audience that we needed. So I would say being a court clerk would be my favorite, because it’s paying the bills.

HR: He certainly loves his drama there. He likes sticking his nose in things and just recently we found out he started his own rumor.

NN: Yeah!

HR: What’s been your favorite bit of drama Wyatt has put himself into?

NN: That’s a very good question. Now I have to really think hard! With Wendie Malick’s character, Julianne, when Gurgs is trying to stop her from smoking. I think that was my favorite part of throwing myself into the drama of it all.

I get to tell this weird story about Tom Cruise, which I did not know. He’s still amazing; I just didn’t know, and I can’t unsee it now. Then there was just all this weird stuff that I was doing. I was leaning into the drama of it all. It was fun, so that was my favorite one.

HR: I’m still shipping Abby and Wyatt. I love the chemistry you two have. Is there anything you can tease?

NN: I would say to keep watching. It’s tough when you’re working with them. Abby and Jake are a literal HR thing happening. The original show, they were always teasing that there was a love thing between the clerk and the judge. Then the same thing with the lawyer and the judge. They never went forward with it because they were working together. That would make things messy, and we don’t want to make a mess.

It would be nice to be loved.

HR: Messy brings comedy, though.

NN: Yes. Yes!
