Did Maya survive the Station 19 series finale? (Was Marina endgame?)
The penultimate episode of Station 19 ended with a character’s life in danger. Maya Bishop was surrounded by the wildfire. Would she manage to find a way out of it in the series finale? After all, we needed Marina to be endgame.
Caution: This post contains major spoilers from the Station 19 series finale
The episode picked up straight off the back of the penultimate episode. We saw Maya in the middle of the fire looking around. She knew she was trapped, and she feared for her life. Of course, Marina fans were terrified that Station 19 would end things the way that so many other shows have ended —burying the gays.
It’s a trope that needs to die, but would Station 19 start bucking the trope? Would Marina end up being endgame? We got answers pretty early on.
Maya made it through the wildfire flames in the Station 19 series finale
Andy was on the other side of the fire, and she was not letting her best friend die. She made it clear that Maya had to focus on everything good that was still to come for her. We got a flash of hope from Maya as she pictured Carina giving birth to their child.
Maya had no idea that Carina was pregnant by this point. It was hard to tell if we were getting real flash forwards or just hope from Maya to give her a reason to fight for her life. The actual answer to that didn’t matter all that much. We just needed to see Maya want to fight for her life.
That’s exactly what she did. She made it to the other side of the fire and joined back up with Andy. Ross, Travis, and others all ended up teaming up as they dealt with a fire tornado coming their way. At least Maya was out of the initial harm’s way, giving us hope that Station 19 would buck the “bury your gays” trope.
