2 must-watch releases on Max coming in January 2024

January is on its way and with it is coming TV series and movies for us to stream to our hearts content. Max has a long list of new arrivals set to land starting January 1. On the list includes the new season of Ricky and Morty (Jan. 22) and Sort Of season 3 (Jan. 18). But if you're looking to indulge in brand new titles we have two picks for you! Let's start with True Detective: Night Country.

The series, which is the latest installment in the True Detective franchise, makes its debut on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO/streaming on Max. The six episode season takes place in Ennis, Alaska and stars Jodie Foster as Det. Liz Danvers and Kali Reis as Det. Evangeline Navarro. They're working on a case involving the disappearance of eight men who'd been operating the Tsalal Arctic Research Station. As they investigate, the detectives will be confronting their own darkness and digging into the truths that haunt the area that have been buried under the ice. True Detective: Night Country promises to be a thrilling mystery drama that will likely chill us to the bone as its story unravels.

Making its HBO premiere on Monday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. ET/streaming on Max, Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project is a critically acclaimed documentary film about one of America's greatest living poets, Nikki Giovanni. The doc utilizes depictions of time passage and space to highlight the influence Giovanni has had through her poetry and social commentary. This includes archival film and television footage as well as radio audio. Giovanni's impact on American culture cannot be understated and this film gives the icon her flowers while she's still with us.
