Ready Or Not

Ready Or Not

Released on Aug. 21, 2019

Quick synopsis

A new bride must hide from her in-laws before they find and sacrifice her in a bloody ritual.

Main cast

Samara Weaving, Mark O'Brien, Adam Brody

Where to watch

Hulu with Premium

Ready Or Not was released in theaters on August 21, 2019, with great reviews from critics and audiences. The story follows Grace, a young bride celebrating her wedding day alongside Alex, her husband, and Alex's family, the wealthy Le Domas clan. While enjoying dinner, the family tells Grace that she must select a game to draw a card. Each card has different games the new spouse entering the Le Domas family must participate in. Grace finds it funny and a bit strange, but she draws a card that reads "hide and seek." Unfortunately, Grace quickly learns that the family is as serious as can be. Grace has married into a Satan-worshipping family and must hide so she isn't found and sacrificed by the cursed family.

The movie is fun, bloody, and has plenty of shocks and twists to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. Samara Weaving stars as Grace, and Mark O'Brien is Alex Le Domas. The rest of the cast includes Adam Brody, Elyse Levesque, and Nicky Guadagni. Stream the movie this Valentine's Day on Hulu as part of your Premium subscription.

My Bloody Valentine 3D

My Bloody Valentine 3D

Released on Jan. 16, 2009

Quick synopsis

A pickaxe-wielding killer is hunting a group of friends in this bloody slasher.

Main cast

Jensen Ackles, Jaime King, Kerr Smith

Where to watch

Prime Video, The Roky Channel, Tubi

My Bloody Valentine 3D is a remake of the original movie, My Bloody Valentine, that was released in 1981. Is 3D better than the original? It depends on who you ask, but it's not really about which one is better. In our opinion My Bloody Valentine 3D is the perfect amount of bloody and silly. The movie does not take itself too seriously and is just here to entertain (with a strong side of gore).

The movie follows Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles), a former coal miner who, due to lack of experience, caused an accident that killed his coworkers. One survivor, Harry, spent a year in a coma. After waking up (on Valentine's Day), Harry murdered 22 people with a pickaxe. Tom is not out of the water as a pickaxe-wielding murderer is on the hunt for Tom and any of his friends who stand in the way. But is this the ghost of Harry or a copycat? In addition to Ackles, the movie also stars Jaime King, Kerr Smith, and Edi Gathegi. Stream it on Prime Video with your Premium subscription or for free on The Roku Channel and Tubi.

Life After Beth

Life After Beth

Released on Aug. 15, 2014

Quick synopsis

Zach's girlfriend Beth is back from the dead, but there's something different about her. She's a blood-thristy zombie.

Main cast

Aubrey Plaza, Dane DeHaan, Molly Shannon

Where to watch

Max, Hulu, Prime Video

Life After Beth is love meets zombie thriller. It stars Aubrey Plaza as Beth, and I can't imagine anyone else in this role. Plaza is known for delivering dry and sarcastic humor, which is just what this movie needed. The story follows Zach (Dane DeHaan), a young man mourning the sudden loss of his girlfriend Beth Slocum. During a visit to Beth's parents' home, Zach sees Beth, learning that she is somehow back from the dead...but there's something off about her. Before Zach knows it, Beth is a full-fledged zombie, and she is hungry!

The movie is a fun and a quick watch at one hour and 30 minutes. We have Molly Shannon, Cheryl Hines, and Paul Reiser, rounding out the cast. The movie is available to stream on Max, Hulu, and Prime Video.

Valentine

Valentine

Released on Feb. 2, 2001

Quick synopsis

A group of women try to escape from a killer dressed as Cupid.

Main cast

Denise Richards, Marley Shelton, Katherine Heigl

Where to watch

Rent it on VOD

As far as box office numbers go, Valentine is considered a disappointment. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie only brought in $36 million against a $29 million budget. However, we're including the movie here because it has become a Valentine's Day staple. So, is it a must-see? Not really, but it is a fun and mindless ride, which is what we are all looking for this Valentine's Day.

The story takes place just days before Valentine's Day and follows a group of women who are being stalked by a killer in a Cupid mask. But this attack isn't random; Cupid is out for revenge on the girls who ruined his life years ago. Valentine stars Denise Richards, David Boreanaz, Marley Shelton, and Katherine Heigl. Unfortunately, if you want to watch the movie, you'll need to rent or purchase it on VOD as it is not available on any streaming service.

Happy Death Day 2U is a sequel to Happy Death Day, but you don't need to watch the first movie to understand 2U. This is especially true if you are only wanting to watch a fun thriller and not dive into the story much. Happy Death Day 2U does feature the same cast, but the story is explained to new viewers.

A masked killer is after Tree Gelbman, a young college student stuck in a parallel universe after one of her friends begins altering time. Tree's close friends are the target of the masked killer, and the only way to save them is to die over and over again. I promise the movie is not as complicated as it sounds! Taylor Russell, Timothée Chalamet, Michael Stuhlbarg

Bones and All may not take place on Valentine's Day, but it is a love story. A very bloody and violent love story. The movie is set in the late 1980s and follows Maren, a young cannibal on the run after biting off the finger of a friend. While on the road, Maren meets Lee, another cannibal. Maren did not know there were other people like her, but it turns out there are many. The duo develops feelings for one another as they embark on a road trip across the States. But it doesn't matter where they travel to; they can't escape the past as their differences threaten their relationship.
