Spoilers ahead of The Bachelorette season 21 episode 5

Jenn Tran's season of The Bachelorette has been fun and flirty with most of the drama happening between the men hoping she falls in love with one of them. But in episode 5, there's a poignant, emotional moment that breaks the season open for her.

It happens during the evening portion of the group date. She was having her usual one-on-one talks with her suitors when Austin asked to have a chat. Earlier in the episode, viewers were let in on his headspace. He'd yet to be chosen for a one-on-one date and it was obvious to him that Jenn was building stronger connections with the other men in the running for her heart.

Without that quality time, Austin couldn't see how he'd be able to make a determination on whether Jenn is the woman for him, and whether he's the right person for her. Rather than continuing on in the season, Austin chose to leave. His exit came as a shock to Jenn who took it harder than any of the audience could have expected. Though her sadness and subsequent drop into a self-deprecating mindset didn't seem to hinge upon Austin himself but rather her thoughts on herself.

Jenn felt like she wasn't enough and admitted to feeling worthless and like she could very well end her season without finding love. It was a heartbreaking moment and spoke to Jenn's insecurities which she'd spoken about but hadn't fall into until Austin's departure. After talking through her feelings in a solo camera interview, Jenn then chose to be vulnerable with her suitors, first in a group setting and then in one-on-ones.

It gave her the opportunity to show another side of herself. For much of the season, Jenn has shown she's carefree and fun. She loves adventure and having a good time, she also has made a point about being honest when it comes to her past hurts and how they've shaped her. But this was the first time we and the suitors were let in on how she negatively thinks about herself in moments when she feels rejected.

They did their best to support Jenn and encourage her, letting her feel the range of her emotions while also building her back up. Each episode has emphasized the importance of being able to let your walls down and let people in. Jenn showed that she is able to do that even if it means pushing through her fear of not living up to the image people have of her being strong and sure of herself.

Episode 5 of this season of The Bachelorette showed how vulnerable Jenn can be and, while we all hope that she's able to quiet the voice in her head that makes her feel worthless, what happened when Austin left likely resonated with a lot of viewers.
