A tale of two unrequited love declarations on The Bachelorette season 21's Fantasy Suites episode
By Sabrina Reed
The Fantasy Suites episode of The Bachelorette season 21 didn't disappoint with its beauty thanks to Hawaii but when it came to the exchange of 'I love you's it was lacking, though that's not because there wasn't effort put in! Devin, who has been incredibly vocal about his feelings for Jenn, continued to express his love for her in action and in word. It, however is taking a toll.
He once again told Jenn that he loves her, but she couldn't say it back. Not when he said it at dinner and not while saying goodbye after spending the night together in the Fantasy Suite. Feeling insecure about their connection, Devin had a heart-to-heart with host Jesse Palmer about the torrent of emotions he's been dealing with when left alone to think about his place on the show.
Devin said he wants to feel loved and like he's Jenn's number one choice but that's not how he feels which is tearing him up inside. He's glad his love is helping her grow but it's having the opposite effect for himself because they're not pouring into their relationship at the same rate. That's been a source of hurt for him and it prompted Devin to go speak to Jenn.
Presumably, he's going to ask her the question that he held back during their time in the Fantasy Suite: "Do you love me?" Based on the preview for Tuesday, Aug. 27's episode, he and Jenn are set to have a difficult talk about where they stand and the answer may result in Devin deciding to walk away from The Bachelorette.
Funnily enough, Jenn also said, "I love you," this episode but she expressed that sentiment to Marcus. His response put her in the same boat she put Devin in. While Jenn did accept that he wasn't ready to say those three words back to her and that he's not where she is in his feelings, it does mean that we're speeding toward the finale with Marcus still unsure on the depth of his connection with Jenn.
In Marcus' solo packages, he admitted to wrestling with whether or not he's trying to find a bond where there isn't one because this is an accelerated process. Still, despite this, Marcus accepted Jenn's invitation to the Fantasy Suite. While it did seem to bring them closer, Jenn is headed toward making a big decision on who's staying for the finale having no reassurance on if Marcus loves her and will be ready to propose if she chooses him.
As for Jonathan, he and Jenn continued to have fun together but, from the outside looking in, it's not clear if their hearts are really on the line when it comes to their future. They didn't exchange love declarations and, though they talked about raising a mixed family, the two feel like they're not as far along as they should be at this point in the season.
