Alert: Missing Persons Unit renewed, Fox to film season 2 and 3 back-to-back

FOX has handed down a renewal for Alert: Missing Persons Unit. The move was expected as the series, whose linear numbers are supported by the Hulu streaming bump, is well liked by the network. And it's good news for fans headed into season 2's finale, "Federal Prisoner #07198F-068P," which airs Tuesday, May 14 at 9 p.m. ET. Based on the promo, there's reason to fear for at least one character's life.

The network's decision has come days before its schedule Upfront presentation on Monday, May 13 where they'll be unveiling the schedule for the 2024-2025 season. FOX has been getting their ducks in a row so there is news to share about the upcoming third season for the series. The procedural is headed into continuous production which means that they'll be sliding from season 2 right into season 3.

Not only is this a cost-effective decision it's also a strategic one. The network has learned a valuable lesson from last year's Hollywood strikes. With the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and AMPTP contract talks underway, FOX is leaving nothing up to chance. If we have another strike this summer, a continuous production means Alert: Missing Persons Unit will have episodes banked and ready to go even if filming is disrupted due to below-the-line workers fighting for a fair contract.

As for an episode count and who will be in the third season, that's still unknown. As is whether the series will be moved from the midseason into the Fall TV schedule. Some of those questions will likely be answered sometime next week as FOX continues to unveil its plans for the next television season.

Currently, we're still waiting on word about The Cleaning Lady. The series is expected to be renewed as well. Reportedly, in its fourth season it would have no deficit and it's lucrative for the network because of international revenue. If it gets the greenlight, the sole drama left on the table would be 9-1-1: Lone Star. However, FOX may wait to make a decision about the series since it's been held until the 2024-2025 season anyway.

The procedural lost its flagship last cancellation season to ABC where it was picked up for a season 8. It's not anticipated that the move will impact Lone Star's prospects unless, of course, it will also be moving to a different banner after its fifth season airs.
