American Idol moves to two nights this week (Here's when you need to tune in on ABC)
The time has finally come where we get American Idol not once, but two times in a week going forward for a while! Longtime fans of the singing competition series know that after a certain point, the show begins to air new episodes twice a week, back-to-back. So what days do you need to tune in for American Idol 2024?
Like previous years, season 22 will air new episodes Sunday and Monday nights on ABC. A new installment of Idol starts this week on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at 8 p.m. ET. We're done with the auditions portion of the season, and now the two-hour episode will bring us to Hollywood Week. Though it looks a bit different this year with the new Idol Arena. The contestants will all be watching each othef perform, which is not uncommon. Per E! Online, one twist that comes with it though is that the aspiring singers don't know when they're going to be called up. So it's going to be pretty intense!
Contestants will have once chance to perform for judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie to move on to the next round. There aren't many more details on how this is going to work, though in the sneak peek at the end of last week's episode, it's teased that contestants get one shot in one round to impress the judges. It will be "the biggest cut in Idol history," per the synopsis. As a reminder, Platinum Ticket winners Odell Bunton Jr., Abi Carter, and Julia Gagnon will be able to skip this round.
Which then brings us to Monday night! Hollywood Week will then be followed up by the Showstopper/Final Judgment round the next day on April 1 on ABC where even more contestants will be eliminated. This installment will also begin at 8 p.m. ET and run for two hours. Episodes also stream on Hulu the following day.
We'll see as the "competition narrows during the final showcase," the judges will decide who's going to make it into the "coveted" Top 24 of the season, per the synopsis. In dramatic Idol fashion, it was teased that the judges will be stuck between two contestants for the last spot in the Top 24, and those two finalists will have to do a sing-off to earn the remaining spot.
American Idol should stick to the two-night format for a while until we get to around the final three rounds in May. We'll be sure to keep you updated with the confirmed schedule. For now, check out our predicted release schedule for the season here! While we wait, get a sneak peek at the Hollywood Week episode below!
