Spoilers ahead of Fire Country season 2 finale

We're hot off the heels of Fire Country season 2's conclusion which left us with more questions than answers for the hiatus between seasons. I'm sure we all have situations, dynamics, and plots that we'd like to see in the next installment. I, for one, need the writers to resolve the Bode/Gabriela/Diego triangle once and for all, for Jake to get some peace, and I'd love for Eve to get a love story. But what would the cast like to see?

Billy Burke gave his answer at a For Your Consideration event and it's right in line with what he shared in our interview about what he likes most about the series--a focus on the family drama and intimate scenes between characters as they figure out what's next for their families/relationships.

"I would love to see just a little bit more of what these people do when there's not a crisis going on. Fire firefighters going to the grocery store… because the truth of the matter is a lot of these guys who spend their lives, you know, sacrificing themselves for everybody else, a lot of the time is downtime. And what do they do with that? Where's the crisis within the crisis?"

Fire Country is heavy on the action and loves to revel in the soap as well but we have few scenes in Edgewater proper. There's Smokies and we've seen a few of the characters' homes but, for the most part, the firefighter drama sticks very closely to Three Rock, Station 42, and the wooded areas around the town. With Bode out of prison, that's likely to change since he's no longer a first responder and he's going to need the help of his uncle Luke to put him on a path to claim his legacy as a Leone.

Having heard Burke's words on downtime, showrunner Tia Napolitano teased: “I was in the season three writers room and I heard a pitch about their downtime. So I think you're gonna be happy."

That's a good sign that we will be seeing more of the personal lives of the characters. Perhaps when Sharon and Vince go out for a date night, like they did at the high school skate night we didn't get to see, we'll actually have the opportunity to be along for the ride. Having moments like those on-screen help to flesh out the world. They also give the audience an opportunity to experience the characters in other environments and how they are outside of a work setting or the local haunt we've become quite familiar with over the seasons.

Napolitano described Fire Country season 3 as their "wish fulfillment" season, with that in mind, we should be getting a season that's a bit different from what we've seen so far which is exciting.
