Could Blue Bloods be getting a spinoff to continue its legacy? It seems someone at CBS thinks it's possible!

It's frankly amazing that Blue Bloods has yet to spawn a spinoff. CBS loves to turn hit shows into franchises as evidenced by CSI, NCIS and FBI. Heck, Fire County got a spinoff in only its second season, and Elsbeth is a hit spinoff of The Good Wife.

So it's puzzling that in its 14-season run, at no point has Blue Bloods tried the classic "backdoor pilot" of an episode showcasing possible spinoff characters. There have been plenty of opportunities but the closest has been with a guest star like Lyle Lovett as Texas Ranger Waylon Gates. The show prefers to keep the focus on the Reagan clan and was seemingly not interested in spawning more series.

However, that may be changing as during a presentation at Paramount's annual stockholder's meeting on Tuesday, Paramount Global co-CEO Brian Robbins discussed the possibility of spinoffs of some hit shows, and Blue Bloods was mentioned: ""In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions, and Blue Bloods."

This is the first indication that Blue Bloods may end up extending its life beyond the planned season 14B that airs this fall. Cast and producers have been upfront on how they feel the show still has life to it and shouldn't be canceled just yet. While CBS has confirmed they won't change their minds about the cancellation, a spin-off could be the key to continuing the franchise a bit.

What could a Blue Bloods spinoff be about?

Finding the right spinoff characters might be the tricky part. Introducing some brand new characters into the Reagans' world just for a spinoff might throw off the main show a bit. Fire Country used the logical idea of having Sheriff Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin) as Sharon's sister, so it made sense she'd be part of this world.

The most likely idea for a spin off would be with Joe Hill (Will Hochman) as he has that connection to the Reagans yet enough of his own character to sustain a series. It can focus on Joe moving to another city for his police career and carry on the Reagan legacy.

There's also a chance to bring back Jennifer Esposito's Jackie Curatola as she's chief of police of a small New Jersey town but might get into some surprising dramatic stuff.

Another possibility is focusing on the DA's office with a younger prosecutor following in Erin's footsteps. A fun idea would be for Erin to finally become DA herself so Bridget Moynahan can stick around in a mentor role for younger attorneys.

At least it sounds like there will be some continuation of Blue Bloods, which is good news for fans who never get enough of this amazing show.
