Bob's Burgers has its fair share of interesting characters and one of those is definitely Gayle, Linda's sister who we also know as Aunt Gayle.

Voiced to perfection by Megan Mullally, Gayle fits about every stereotype there is when it comes to having a goofy aunt. She's a cat lady, perpetually single, and does some of the most off-the-wall things without thinking. To say she's eccentric would be an understatement.

For the most part, Gayle is either looking for attention or wants someone to help her with something that is pretty basic. While I've talked about Gayle and her mental health before, that's not a topic we're diving into today.

Rather, we're focusing on whether "The Right Tough Stuff" does Gayle justice. To put it simply, is this episode a good Gayle tale or an epic Gayle fail?

Is "The Right Tough Stuff" a good Gayle-themed episode?

"The Right Tough Stuff" follows Gayle announcing she's about to be a contestant on Tough Stuff Island which isn't entirely true. Linda decides to help her out by shooting and editing her audition video with the kids coming along to help her. Linda edits everything to make Gayle look normal but the kids decide to make their own tape of Gayle. Gayle takes the kids to a place where she and Linda went in high school to record. Eventually, Linda realizes how much the kids believe in Gayle and even though she isn't picked, she still gets her moment.

As far as Gayle-themed episodes go, this is easily one of the best ones. While Gayle can be a bit much, it's clear she truly believes in herself. Gayle believes she's going to be featured on Tough Stuff Island. While some of her ideas are less than feasible, she truly believes that she can do it which is a point of contention between herself and Linda.

We'll touch on that in a minute, but this episode felt really nice as it showed a more wholesome relationship between the kids and Gayle. Like I previously mentioned, Gayle can seem like more of a joke than anything. However in "The Right Tough Stuff," the kids truly believed in Gayle and think she's a strong person. There's something so beautiful and touching in that moment, making the episode even more heartfelt.

If anything, this proves just how far the show has come. While Bob's Burgers did showcase some of Gayle's eccentrics, the episode proved just how cool she is. It also shows the sisterly relationship between Gayle and Linda as Linda is used to having to help and protect Gayle. This time, she was able to step back, trust the kids, and focus more on being proud of her sister rather than worrying about how she might hurt or embarrass herself. Plus the episode also touched on some of Linda's insecurities which didn't play as large of a role but aren't something we hear about very often in the series.

To put it in terms that Bob's Burgers fans will get, "The Right Tough Stuff" is a medium-well burger. It's a good episode, full of heartfelt moments and humor but ultimately, not a perfect episode. Regardless of your feelings on Gayle, there is no denying that the episode was her time to shine and ultimately, ended up being a great Gayle tale.

Bob's Burgers airs on Sundays on Fox at 9/8c.
