We know that not all shows will make it through to another season. ABC seems to be a little more ruthless than others when it comes to cancellations this year. There are a fair few shows that won’t air in the 2024–2025 season.

ABC hasn’t left too much on the bubble for May 2024. A lot of decisions were made during the summer of strikes, with some long-running shows getting the final season order for their upcoming storylines.

We’re salty, especially when it comes to one particular show with great representation. It’s a shame that networks are cancelling the more inclusive shows on the air—the shows that we need more of.

Here’s a look at all the canceled ABC shows that won’t be back in the 2024–2025 TV season.

The two canceled ABC shows in the 2023–2024 TV season

There are only two shows officially canceled at this point. They are:

  • Station 19 2018–2024 (seven seasons)
  • The Good Doctor 2018–2024 (seven seasons)

Both of these shows are ending with seven seasons. The cancellations came in before work started on them in full, allowing for the creators to craft endings for the two.

Eyes are on The Connors and Not Dead Yet, which are still on the bubble.

Why is Station 19 ending with Season 7?

One of the first shows to get the axe was Station 19. After seven seasons, we’re saying goodbye to the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off. Fans are not letting this series go quietly, with many fighting for the chance to see more of the firefighters and first responders. A lot of the focus is on Maya and Carina, as they bring an excellent look at queer love.

Why was the series ending? This is linked to money. ABC never officially explained why the Grey’s Anatomy series was chosen to end, but ABC is looking to save money to balance the scripted lineup with reality and live sports, according to Deadline. Finances have become an issue for a lot of networks, and Station 19 wasn’t one of the cheapest shows on the network due to the explosive and dramatic storylines.

There were some rumors that it was linked to ABC saving 911. However, the two shows arguably weren’t up against each other and TGIT could have benefitted with both airing to flank Grey’s Anatomy.

Why is The Good Doctor ending with Season 7?

The Good Doctor getting canceled was a shock to a lot of people. This is one of those shows that has continued to perform well on the network.

Again, ABC didn’t officially announce why this decision was made, but showrunner David Shore explained that it was linked to the trajectory of the series and the network deciding it was time to end the show. Shore has been able to craft an ending that works for the series and will complete the story for individual characters.

It is possible that this series was getting too costly. The show performed well on Mondays, but it wasn’t the most successful show on the network in recent years.
