Does Bold and the Beautiful have a mystery killer on the loose? (Speculation)
By Sean OBrien
Tom and Hollis' deaths have rocked The Bold and the Beautiful. This scorching summer double murder mystery has Sheila taken into custody for questioning.
But devoted fans must be thinking that Kimberlin Brown's recently revived character can't be guilty of either crime. The celebrated return of arguably one of the greatest villains in daytime history was organized. So, why would showrunner Bradley Bell sign Brown to a fresh contract if the plan was to convict and jail her character months later? That illogical scenario opens more plausible plot doors.
Jack Finnegan suddenly reappears
Finn's disgraced father, Jack, has not been seen since last year. While in jail, Sheila was forced to email him using old-school technology.
Viewers learned about Jack's profession during that jailhouse visitor's room meeting. He was said to rank with the best criminal defense lawyers in California. Much to Sheila's chagrin, he rejected her defense plea, but charges against her were dropped through the influence of a corrupt judge.
Having Jack revealed as Tom or Hollis' killer would be easy. While Ted King's character has a place in the show as Finn's father, he is a rarely seen disposable side character. Separately, it felt reasonable to believe that he, not Bill, was Luna's father when her paternity was in doubt. Jack cheated on Li with Sheila and secretly had Finn.
Turning to Penelope Poppy Nozawa
It would have been easy to put Poppy in the suspect category even if the viewers only knew what Li revealed about her distrusted sister's past. Add Tom's confrontation with Poppy days before his murder, and Romy Park's character is a prime suspect.
Tom told Poppy that he is Luna's father. She vehemently denied that statement. Plus, Li conducted the DNA test. So, unless Naomi Matsuda's character was concealing the truth for unknown reasons or accidentally botched or misread the test she performed in Bill's living room with all parties present, then Tom's assertion must be false.
However, Tom and Poppy's romantic connection when he was a momentarily famous singer included drug use. That element lets fans quickly draw a line from Tom as a threat to Poppy, knocking him off. But why would she have wanted to kill Hollis, assuming the same person killed both people?
An unexpected killer in or out of Los Angeles?
The audience doesn't know for certain if Hollis told anyone other than Sheila that he found Tom's backpack. It's also unknown if he shared knowledge of whatever revelation he had after looking at the rubber-banded envelopes. What viewers do know is that he began talking to someone the night he died and the conversation has yet to air.
It seems obvious that a link or direct reference to Poppy was on various envelope addresses. But viewers also don't know if another name or more than one was there. For example, how about Li's name? Her reaction when hearing Sheila recall the backpack Hollis found was surprising. It begged the question of who he recognized and spoke with during the last scene when viewers saw him alive
Along with the above, Li's firm belief that Sheila killed both men could be fully connected to the past crimes Brown's character committed against Finn, Steffy and herself. Alternatively, Li might be purposely deflecting Deputy Chief Bradley Baker's focus.
She is just one character in Los Angeles who could be revealed as the mystery killer. It would be good to confirm that Mike Guthrie was still in jail because he would do anything for Sheila.
The woman Steffy killed in self-defense, Sheila's look-a-like Sugar, could have a vengeful relative or ally. That unknown or never-introduced character would fit nicely as the killer of Tom and Hollis, with the attempt to frame Sheila as a motive.
Of course, there are various characters in LA or past soap characters that viewers can consider as this summer thriller plays on.
