A new Hulu miniseries is coming on March 28 and will tell the story of a Jewish family’s fight to survive during WWII. The miniseries is based on the New York Times novel of the same name written by Georgia Hunter. The novel was released in 2017 and now an adaptation of the compelling story it will be available on the streaming platform for viewing.

Hunter is credited as being a co-executive producer alongside Adam Milch and Erica Lipez, who is also a writer and showrunner of the series. Other executive producers include Jennifer Todd and Thomas Kail, who is also a director.

The miniseries is exclusive to Hulu so those who are subscribed to the streaming platform will be able to view it once it is available. Before the first few episodes begin airing, find out what to know about the miniseries and who is among the cast.

What is We Were the Lucky Ones about?

We Were the Lucky Ones follows the Kurc family at the beginning of WWII when they become separated from one another. Told in eight parts, the “series follows them across continents as they do everything in their power to survive, and to reunite.” The family lives in Poland but will follow each member of the family as they are separated in various countries.

Hunter drew inspiration from her own grandfather’s story of surviving the Holocaust when writing the book. She didn’t find out until after his death about the history of her family.

Cast

Among the cast are Joey King and Logan Lerman, who portray siblings separated during the war. King plays Halina, who is the youngest in the family and Lerman plays Addy, who does not live in Poland with his family and is in Paris when the German invasion occurs.

Addy is based on Hunter's grandfather. While we do not know a lot about the other family members, it's clear that the basis of the film and novel is the desire for them to make it back together and to hold onto hope of being reunited.

Other than her role in the miniseries, King is known for The Kissing Booth and The Act, which is also on Hulu. Lerman is known for Hunters, Percy Jackson, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
