Evil season 4 episode 2 preview: A werewolf attack and jinn problems
By Sabrina Reed
Spoilers ahead for Evil season 4, episode 1 "How to Split an Atom"
Evil's return dropped us immediately back into the plot just as Kristen learns that Leland fertilized her wayward egg and now they're expecting a son together who he's referred to as the Antichrist. It's a lot to wrap one's mind around but the hits kept coming!
While on a case set at a research facility, Ben was struck by an ion beam. Though he wasn't too fussed about it, his friends rightfully were as were the scientists running the particle accelerator. It turns out they were right to be concerned though not for the reasons they might think. They were worried about the affect the beam would have on his physiology but there was a supernatural component that was unexpected--Ben is now being haunted by a jinn!
David was relatively unscathed. In fact, he's more determined than ever thanks to the vision he had of the angel telling him that in 38 days a cataclysm will happen. The event is tied both to the birth of Kristen's son and the official opening of the particle accelerator. That's a very small window to operate in especially since the synopsis for the season included a plot point about their team being on the verge of shutdown because of a lack of funding.
What's set to happen next? Here's what we know!
The (were)wolves are out in Evil season 4 episode 2
"How to Train a Werewolf" premieres Thursday, May 30 at 12 a.m. PT/3 a.m. ET on Paramount+. The episode will see Kristen, David, and Ben on a case involving what's believed to be a werewolf attack. However, their investigation will reveal that all is not what it seems. Meanwhile, Andy will be dealing with his mysterious trauma, and Ben will be turning to science to help with his jinn problem.
Given the synopsis, it looks like we should be getting more insight into what exactly is going on with Andy. He'd been held hostage by Leland and it's apparent he's still susceptible to the crazed man's influence. Leland and Sheryl had called him back to the room they kept him in so that they could put into his head that Kristen is having an affair with David, and so he can get his wife to let her mom back in her life. Sheryl was banished from the home when Kristen found out about the baby.
In the season opener, Andy went directly to David to tell him to stop sleeping with Kristen--though he said it far more crudely. Shocked, David told him that he wasn't carrying on with his wife, but Andy didn't believe him. David shared with Kristen what happened and she was livid but, in the midst of her anger, she also admitted to having feelings for David, so it's not like Andy doesn't have cause to be wary of the two's partnership. But Kristen is of the belief he doesn't have a right to be upset since he'd been gone for so long and left her to raise their four girls on her own.
I'm assuming more of that plot will come to a head as well. But when it comes to Ben, we're going to be in for a dive into science which should be fun if it starts veering into the mad science lane! In an interview with 1428 Elm, Aasif Mandvi teased Ben's storyline.
"His faith in science, his belief in the empirical, that becomes his crisis of faith this season. He can't explain the thing that is happening to him physically and personally."
The actor expressed that he had fun playing this changed perspective for Ben who has always been rooted to the earth and is now uprooted due to the jinn. It sounds like we'll be with this storyline for a bit in the season. I'm assuming we should prepare for twists.
