Family Guy season 23 trailer, holiday specials, and more to know
I'm so ready for Family Guy to drop season 23, even though the rest of the fans and I must wait until January 2025 when it arrives on FOX's Animation Domination block. However, the wait won't be so bad as Hulu will be premiering two holiday specials coming this October and December. If you know the Family Guy writers, they love crafting a great holiday-themed episode that feels family-friendly but has that comedic and raw punch the show has been known for for 25 years.
Until now, FOX has been discreet about season 23's details and what to expect from the Griffin family. TVLine was the first outlet to report such news, including the synopsis and a "sizzle reel" trailer revealing yet-to-come episode snippets. What I loved about the video was the Easter Eggs from past seasons and Seth MacFarlane's narration.
Get ready for season 23, as it promises to be "freakin' sweet."
What to know about Family Guy season 23 so far
As mentioned, TVLine dropped a pretty good chunk of spoilers to prep for the new season. We've got over five minutes of new material in the sizzle reel and the date for the new Halloween special, premiering exclusively on Hulu.
The reel's cold open unveils a parodied storyline of the 1986 action film Top Gun and flies into the spirit of the episode, "Fat Gun." Then, we glimpse Lisa Simpson as a mask when Brian and Stewie shop for Halloween costumes. Back in 2014, Family Guy did a crossover episode with The Simpsons, hatching the first Easter Egg to prior seasons.
Then, we get another Easter Egg: members of the US Supreme Court are actually DC Justice League heroes in disguise. Called the "Supreme Friends," the snippet rolls back to when the Griffins were the heroes in the intro for the second episode of season 8.
As for guest stars appearing, comedian Pete Davidson pops in unexpectedly, revealing his secret to relationships.
FOX drops the official logline for season 23
The logline, revealed episode plot descriptions and a couple of pop culture references. Suppose I had to guess about the China episode, in that case, I bet it'll be called "The Road To China" since Stewie and, most likely, Brian will be traveling to the Asian country. Hopefully, we'll have a song-and-dance routine as the past "Road" episodes included them, making them fun and memorable.
"Peter accidentally exposes his inability to throw a ball, Meg starts dating the giant chicken’s son, and Chris loses his earring in a Lord of the Rings-inspired escapade. Additionally, Stewie finds out his stuffed bear, Rupert, was made in China and makes it his mission to take him back there to meet his family. The series will also parody The White Lotus, as the Griffin family vacation[s] at a luxury resort, where Stewie worries that his wealthy new friends plan to sacrifice him in a volcano."
The Family Guy Halloween special premiere date
Fans will be treated to the Halloween special on October 14. It'll stream on Hulu. No further details surrounding the Christmas episode have been announced as of this writing.
