FOX delivers its first scripted renewal for 2024 and it's not the show you'd expect!

The Fox network's slate is heavily focused on reality shows, but it does have some good scripted series as well. Those include The Cleaning Lady, Alert: Missing Persons Unit, and Accused,. The first two have proven to be fan-favorites, and viewers are looking forward to seeing the premieres of both on March 5, 2024. As for Accused, it's been renewed for a second season and is in the works. But it's none of these three that Fox has already renewed. So which scripted project is it?

That would be Animal Control! The comedy series, starring Joel McHale, is the first scripted show Fox has renewed in 2024. And this is really impressive given that Animal Control season 2 hasn't even aired yet! The second season premieres Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 9 p.m. ET. It will see "mating season - for both the animals and the officers who protect them," per the synopsis. Interesting...

In a press release, here's what President of Scripted Programming, FOX Entertainment Michael Thorn said:

"Animal Control is an incredibly irreverent series that expresses everything viewers expect from a Fox comedy. It has an amazing amount of momentum behind it, and we’ve been so impressed by the work Joel, [creators] Bob [Fisher], Rob [Greenberg], Dan [Sterling], [showrunner] Tad [Quill], [executive producer] Jake [Fuller] and the entire cast are delivering for Season Two we wanted to reward them with the opportunity to deliver even more of this special show to fans next season."

This is Fox's first fully-owned comedy, so it's a pretty impressive feat to have found success in the first sitcom project the company has taken on its own. Per the network, the series premiere of Animal Control was Fox's most-streamed (on Hulu) premiere ever. It's no surprise the show and the reception to it have done so well! Though it is a comedy, there's also already been some character growth and heartfelt characters as well. It's a well-rounded story that has multiple dynamics and elements. And I think that's what's contributed to its success and early renewal!

According to Deadline, the third season will go into production after the cast takes a break from season 2 filming. The cast also includes Michael Rowland as Fred “Shred” Taylor, Vella Lovell as Emily Price, Ravi Patel as Amit Patel, Grace Palmer as Victoria Sands, and Gerry Dee as Templeton Dudge. McHale will reunite with his former Community co-star Ken Jeong who is coming on as a guest star!
