Gibbs returns to the NCIS universe in a new spinoff
If you thought NCIS was finished with spinoffs, then you would be mistaken! And this time, we will get back to the beginning. NCIS: Origins is a brand-new spinoff that is set to focus on our very own Leroy Jethro Gibbs back in his early years.
NCIS is no stranger to spinoffs since we have already seen the likes of the now-canceled NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, and brand brand-new series NCIS: Sydney. This time, however, we will be going back in time and focusing on a beloved character fans of been missing: Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
The new series is set to be part of the 2024-2025 CBS television season and will be set in 1991, years before Gibbs would have his own team. The new spinoff, which will be narrated by Mark Harmon himself, will follow Gibbs when he begins his career with NCIS at Camp Pendleton. This would be where he would begin working with his soon-to-be mentor, Mike Franks.
Besides Harmon, his son Sean Harmon, who played young Gibbs in flashbacks on the original NCIS, also was part of the project. They also worked with NCIS writers and producers Gina Lucita Monreal and David. J. North.
New NCIS spinoff to follow a young Gibbs before the original series
There is no confirmation yet as to who will play the character of Gibbs.
Sean Harmon was quoted as saying, “I always felt there was a tale worth telling about his earlier years, so I am thrilled to be stepping into a producing role alongside Gina, David, and my dad as we tell this story and reveal a new side of this beloved character.”
Before we get into Gibbs’s earlier life, we will see the current NCIS team getting back into action on Monday, Feb. 12, on CBS.
We will keep you updated with more coverage of NCIS: Origins so stay tuned!
