Halo is about to unleash its second season, so from release dates to cast to story, here's what to know about the new year for the video game adaptation!

Released in 2001, Halo was a groundbreaking video game, a first-person shooter where players took on the role of Master Chief, a "Spartan" soldier in the 25th century. He was part of a war against the Covenant, a brutal alien alliance trying to wipe out Earth. The game and its successive sequels became one of the biggest video game franchises around.

While there were failed attempts at a movie version, in 2022, Paramount+ finally unveiled Halo the series. It's done a good job of bringing the game to life with a few twists on the storyline and expanding on the mythology. Season 1 had a powerful ending, so what is coming for season 2?

The first season of Halo had only eight episodes, mostly due to the budget and the filming being cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. Season 2 will keep to the same episode number, which should be a nice way to build up the storylines. It's likely some episodes may be longer than others to fit in more action.

What is Halo season 2's schedule?

Per Games Radar, the show will premiere its first two episodes on Thursday, Feb. 8. Episodes drop every week, with the season 2 finale on March 21.

  • Episode 1: Sanctuary – Feb. 8, 2024
  • Episode 2: Sword – Feb. 8, 2024
  • Episode 3: Visegrad – Feb. 15, 2024
  • Episode 4: Reach – Feb. 22, 2024
  • Episode 5: Aleria – Feb. 29, 2024
  • Episode 6: Onyx – March 7, 2024
  • Episode 7: Thermopylae – March 14, 2024
  • Episode 8: Halo – March 21, 2024

The Season 1 cast will be mostly intact, with Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief and Jen Taylor voicing Cortana, his suit's AI. There will be a few new faces for season 2, with Joseph Morgan among those joining this unique fight.

  • Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief, Spartan-117

  • Natasha Culzac as Riz-028
  • Bentley Kalu as Vannak-134

What is season 2 about?

Season 1 ended on a dramatic note, with the Spartans learning the dark origins of how they were created. Also, to handle a deadly threat, Master Chief ("John") had to die and allow Cortana to take over his body, with the indication that he wasn't fully back at the end.

This will play into season 2, which looks to finally lead the Spartans to discovering the famed Halo itself, which can hold the key to victory.

"Master Chief John-117 leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant. As humanity's best hope for winning the war, John-117 discovers his deep connection to a mysterious alien structure that holds the key to humankind's salvation, or its destruction – the Halo."

So, between the amazing sci-fi action and the top-notch cast, it looks like Halo season 2 is set to be even wilder than the first year to make fans of the game happy.

Halo Season 2 premieres Thursday, Feb. 8 on Parmaount+.
