Kim Burgess MIA status in Chicago PD season 12 could be something positive
Like during the 11th season, it looks like we’ll see some characters MIA throughout Chicago PD season 12. This happened with Burgess in the first two episodes of the season.
This doesn’t mean anything bad for the characters when they’re MIA. A lot of shows are looking for ways to reduce the costs of production, and having actors not in episodes here and there helps with that considerable. Chicago PD has been doing this for a while.
Chicago PD quickly explained where Burgess was in the premiere episode. She’s away at a police conference, but she did offer to come back when it came to the big drug case throughout the episode. Martel was the one to convince her to stay.
Is Kim Burgess getting a promotion in Chicago PD season 12?
Martel wanted Burgess to stay at the conference for her career. She made it clear that it would give Burgess a leg up in her career, hinting that Burgess is the one getting a promotion this season.
We know that someone is going to get a promotion. This makes sense for two reasons. 1) there are no detectives left in Intelligence and 2) Burgess has worked her butt off and it’s about time she got a promotion.
Showrunner Gwen Sigan shared with TV Insider that “someone’s getting promoted.” It is going to be someone who has wanted it for some time, and we know Burgess has wanted to advance in her career. Martel sees that, so it made sense for her to encourage Burgess to stay at the conference. I do think that this is going to be a good thing for Burgess, even though she couldn’t be there for Ruzek as he hunted down Martel’s killer.
Burgess is going to be back in Chicago PD season 12, episode 3. We’ll get to see her grieve the loss of Martel while also helping with a case that involves a bunch of armed robberies.
Chicago PD airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
