Law and Order: Organized Crime is on the move but that doesn't mean we won't get a Benson-Stabler reunion

When news broke that Law and Order: Organized Crime would be moving to Peacock, fans knew that a crossovers between the series and its sister show SVU would get tricky if not be out of the question. For Benson-Stabler shippers (or fans who simply love their dynamic) that was disappointing because the bond between the characters has been a highlight of the Law and Order franchise. But we should have known Mariska Hargitay would be on the case!

Though the duo didn't have any in-person moments in SVU's season 25--they had a moving phone call in the finale where Benson shared with Stabler that she'd given the compass necklace he gave her to a victim's mother--that doesn't mean that we can't on a crossover in the coming seasons for the shows which both got renewed. Variety reports one such episode is already being planned as Hargitay explained at the NBCU FYC Emmy showcase:

"I’m actually planning on it. I just told him the other day. We had a party the other night, we saw each other. It was heavenly. I met his showrunner. They want us together, and Chris and I were talking about it, and it’s time. It’s time now for us. This was a long time not being in each other’s universe. That’s why we did the calls and stuff like that. But we’re excited to get back in there, get back in the ring."

Without reading too much into Hargitay's words, we at least know that the powers that be behind both shows are looking to have Benson and Stabler reunite. Whether or not that'll progress their "will they-won't they" plot forward is another conversation entirely but considering both Hargitay and Christopher Meloni are ready to pull the trigger on the romantic aspect of their characters' relationship, perhaps that day will come sooner than we think. Stabler and Benson were supposed to kiss after all, it was Dick Wolf who decided it should be changed to an almost kiss.

For now, we can trust that Hargitay has her finger on the pulse of what fans want. The actress is also pushing for the return of Kelli Giddish for SVU season 26. Benson's friendship with Rollins is dearly missed. In law enforcement procedurals, it's rare to see tight bonds between women because it's such a boys' club so when they are an important part of a series, for those invested, it's a blow when they're gone. Hopefully, Giddish will be able to make a return for more than an episode or two and the dynamic duo will be back on our screens.
