Layoffs are coming to the Station 19 crew! Which firefighter is most likely to be on the chopping block?
Station 19 is returning this month, but some firefighters could be facing the chopping block! Who's most likely to get fired as the final season hits?
Station 19 fans have gotten bittersweet news this year. First, after a long delay caused by the Hollywood strikes in 2023, the series was finally confirmed to be coming back for Season 7. However, it will also be the last season with ABC deciding to cut the show loose.
The first trailer hints at the action, drama, and romantic entanglements fans of the show have come to love. However, it ends on a dark note as Fire Chief Natasha Ross tells new captain Andy Herrera that "budget cuts are coming down the pike" and "lay-offs are imminent."
This may be a way for the producers to set up the series finale as the crew faces the possibility that some of them may be cut loose. So, which firefighters or paramedics could be facing the chopping block in Season 7?
Who could be let go on Station 19?
The most obvious candidate for departure would be Jack. First, it's still up in the air if he survived after the last scene of Season 6 showed him collapsing during the big disaster at the Fireman's Gala that killed off Chief Dixon. That comes after Jack's downward spiral at the start of the season nearly got him fired anyway.
While he pulled out of that, it's still a black mark on Jack's record. Combine that with his likely injuries and whether he's mentally fit for the job, and perhaps the higher-ups will decide Jack is better off cut from the squad.
Sullivan is another possibility, as the reveal of his relationship with Ross hampered his standing with the team. There's also the man's long-standing chronic pain syndrome, a major liability for a firefighter, so he may outright welcome being cut.
Another good choice is Maya, who rubbed a lot of the team the wrong way with her attitude in Season 6 (like giving known alcoholic Beckett a bottle of vodka) and even close to ruining her marriage by her attempts to become captain. With her impulsive nature, it's possible Maya makes a move that gets her fired.
However, a surprising name that could be dropped is Ross herself. She took a bold stand defending her firefighters against the cops in Season 6, which almost got her fired. She may have saved her job then but obviously rubbed a lot of the upper brass the wrong way. The budget cuts would be the perfect excuse for them to get rid of her and hide behind it just another name let go for money.
However it goes, the ax hanging over the team and whether they keep their jobs is another way the final season of Station 19 is going out blazing hot.
Station 19 Season 7 premieres Thursday, March 14, at 10/9c on ABC.
