Lopez vs Lopez season 2 has officially come to a close and fans are eager to know whether NBC’s underrated comedy will be coming back for another season, and it seems they’re not the only ones!

Following the season 2 finale on April 30, series star Mayan Lopez told Deadline that the cast is still waiting for word from NBC on whether a third season will be happening. While Lopez is just as in the dark as fans are, she too is hoping that season 2 was not the end of the show and she had high hopes for where the story will go in a potential third season. Warning: Spoilers ahead from the Lopez vs Lopez season 2 finale.

“We’re hoping it’s not the end. We’re hoping that the third season will be about the wedding,” Lopez told Deadline, touching upon the season 2 finale’s surprise engagement for her character Mayan. “So many fans keep DM’ing me asking if it’s going to happen and I’m hoping we can give them that kind of ending.”

In looking ahead to what season 3 could bring for Mayan, Lopez has high hopes the top being for fans to get to see Mayan and Quinten’s big day and that the pair expand upon their family.

“I hope she and Quinten will get married and have another baby. I think it would be interesting to see where things go with Rosie and George and how they’d go forward with things because George did relapse. How is that going to change?” Lopez shared, reflectin her hopes for Lopez vs Lopez season 3. “Also, I would love to see how wedding planning goes for Mayan, George, and Rosie. I would love to see a reality where George gets equally as involved in the wedding planning and even more so [than everyone else].”

Lopez vs Lopez season 3 could still happen (but it’s unlikely)

At this time, Lopez vs Lopez remains very much on the bubble and it could honestly go either way for the show – though the show’s ratings could spell trouble for its odds of securing a renewal.

Season-to-date, Lopez vs Lopez is NBC’s least-watched primetime original series which is never a good thing for a show on the bubble. In fact, NBC has already canceled its lowest-rated drama Quantum Leap which was averaging a couple hundred thousand more viewers throughout its second season than Lopez Vs. Lopez has in its.

It also doesn’t hurt that the show hasn’t been considered a critical darling which can sometimes tip the scales for a show.

What does help is that Lopez vs Lopez is cheaper to make as a half-hour comedy, so there is always a chance NBC will bring the show back for at least one more season. Still, the odds seem stacked against the show and if we had to bet on one of NBC’s three comedies on the bubble, the most likely to return seems to be Night Court.

With May Sweeps upon us, we should know soon whether NBC will be bringing Lopez vs Lopez back for another season as the network is expected to announce its 2024-25 schedule in late May timed to the annual advertiser Upfronts. Fans just might want to start preparing themselves for the possibility that we won't be getting a third season.
