Manhunt cast: Who stars in the new AppleTV+ series?

For anyone who loves history, a new series on AppleTV+ is set to tell the story about the aftermath of President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Due for release on Friday, March 15, who is part of the cast of Manhunt?

The synopsis for Manhunt calls it a conspiracy thriller, which focuses on the investigation and search for John Wilkes Booth after he shot the President. The miniseries is based on the book by James L. Swanson, titled Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer.

Monica Beletsky is a creator and executive producer alongside Carl Franklin, Layne Eskridge, Kate Barry, John Dahl, Eva Sørhaug, James L. Swanson, Richard Abate, Michael Rotenberg, and Naia Cucukov. In the trailer, it shows the moments leading up to the assassination and the subsequent investigation into who committed the crime. There are some familiar faces who are in the miniseries, which feature seven parts.

Tobias Menzies

Menzies plays Edwin Stanton. He was the Secretary of War during Lincoln’s administration. He was instrumental in overseeing the investigation into the assassination and looking for those responsible. Menzies may be most recognizable from his role as Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh in the Netflix series The Crown. 

Anthony Boyle

Boyle plays John Wilkes Booth himself, the actor who would end up assassinating President Lincoln. He’s known for his roles in Masters of the Air, Onus, and The Lost City of Z.

Hamish Linklater

Linklater plays the role of Abraham Lincoln, best known for being the President during the Civil War era. His other credits include The Big Short, The New Adventures of Old Christine, and Netflix’s Midnight Mass.

Lovie Simone

Simone plays Mary Simms in the series. While Simms did not appear to have actually met Booth in real life, her character in the miniseries will have interactions with him after he hides out at the home of the man who had enslaved her, Dr. Mudd. Besides her role in this miniseries, Simone has also appeared in The Craft: Legacy, 57 Seconds, and Selah and the Spades.

Patton Oswalt

Oswalt is known for being a comedian, but in the series,, he will play Col. Lafayette Baker, who was one of Stanton’s allies in the search for Booth.

Glenn Morshower

Morshower plays Andrew Johnson, who would become President upon Lincoln’s death. The actor is best known for The Resident, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and 24.

Matt Walsh

Walsh plays the role of Dr. Samuel Mudd, who was the one who took care of Booth’s broken leg after the assasination and whose role in the entire plot was suspicious. Before his role in Manhunt, Walsh also appeared in The Hangover, Veep, and Life of the Party.

Lili Taylor

Taylor plays the role of Mary Todd Lincoln, who was present during her husband’s assassination. Besides playing the traumatized First Lady, Taylor has also appeared in American Crime, The Conjuring, and The Nun.

Will Harrison

Harrison portrays David Herold, who was Booth’s accomplice in the assasination. The actor is known for Daisy Jones & The Six and In Arms.
