Dizzy (Izzy and Denny)
When Izzy fell in love with a patient, we know that there was going to be a mess. Of course, it went the way that we expected. Izzy put her job on the line in an attempt to save Denny. When she found out someone else was going to get the heart that he was on the list for, she cut his LVAD wire to prevent that happening.
It was all in vain, as well. Denny ended up dying of a stroke after the transplant. Sure, Denny wanted to live and wanted that heart transplant, but someone else needed it more than him and he didn’t even really have a choice in what Izzy did to the LVAD wire. She abused her position in so many ways.
It’s normal for a doctor to feel some sort of connection to their patients. We’ve seen it with other characters before, but they’ve not put their jobs on the line for these patients. Even Teddy didn’t put her job on the line in an attempt to save Henry when she proposed to him to make sure he had good health insurance. Yes, that was questionable, but nothing on the lines of what Izzy did for Denny.
O’Stevens (Izzy and George)
Talk about ships that just didn’t make any sense at all. Izzy constantly came across as one of those “pick me girls,” and that was certainly the case with her interest in George. She only wanted him after George married Callie, and she was terrified to face Callie after becoming the other woman (and so she should have been!).
There was no build up to this relationship even happening. And let’s be honest; it wasn’t even a real relationship. The two had so little in common outside of their work as doctors. They didn’t share many of the same views, and George was never the nice guy he was constantly made out to be. Okay, he was one of those “nice guys.” You know the type.
It’s not surprising that the ship didn’t last long. It’s just a shame because it destroyed what could have worked out well for Callie and George. Of course, then we wouldn’t have had the Calzona storyline. Or maybe we could have done after George’s death.
