Alexie (Lexie and Alex)
I feel like I may have made up that ship name. After Izzie left Alex, there was an attempt to put Lexie and Alex together. This also came after Lexie broke up with Mark. This relationship was one that just didn’t work at all, but I can see why the two attempted it.
For one, Lexie was far too kind for the man Alex was at the time. If you’d have said they got together around Season 8, then I would have accepted it. Alex did a lot of growth after the hospital shooting. Before that, Lexie was getting herself into a bad rebound relationship.
We saw just how messy it was in the end with how Alex mistook Lexie for Izzie. As he died, he looked at a blonde Lexie and called her Izzie, making it clear that he was still in love with his wife. Lexie struggled with dealing with the trauma after the hospital shooting (not surprising!), so that also led to the breakdown of their relationship, but there was no way getting around Alex’s feelings.
Jaggie (Maggie and Jackson)
We end with a head-scratcher of a relationship. Grey’s Anatomy decided to put Maggie and Jackson together. That ship came out of left field, and it just didn’t work for so many reasons. Their personalities were far too different. I know they say opposites attracted, but not in this case.
It also didn’t help that Webber and Catherine were getting together. When Webber and Catherine married, it made Jackson and Maggie stepsiblings, and that was just awkward. Sure, they didn’t grow up together to see themselves as siblings, but there were a few ick moments.
The two never seemed to agree on anything. Even when it came to treatments of patients, they often struggled to come to an agreement. That is a problem with a lot of different doctors, but it also led to issues in their relationships.
There is another season of Grey’s Anatomy to come, so we’re sure to see many more messy ships.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 premieres on Thursday, March 14 at 9/8c on ABC. Catch up the following day on Hulu.
