NCIS season 21 DVD review: The features make this box set
NCIS season 21 is out on DVD and it has fun features that fans will enjoy. Not only will you get to relive the magic of all ten episodes, you can watch one episode that also features audio commentary from the cast and crew involved with the series.
Season 21, as you may recall, opened up with Agent Nick Torres dealing with an unwanted familiar face from his past. Almost immediately following, the team had to say goodbye to their beloved friend and colleague, Dr. Mallard. Even though the season was shortened due to the writer’s strike, it still provided us with plenty of stories about each of the characters.
With the ending of the season leaving some character journeys in question, the DVD is a great way to relive the magic of season 21 before NCIS season 22 debuts on October 14, 2024.
The entire DVD set comes with three discs. The first one contains the episodes “Algún Día,” “The Stories We Leave Behind,” and “Lifeline.” The special features on this disc focus on episode 2, which followed the team as they mourned the loss of Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, played by the late David McCallum.
The special feature for this disc is called, “Farewell Ducky: Celebrating David McCallum.” It’s great to see such a wonderful tribute to the actor and his character. The tribute is a wonderful way to pay homage to an amazing man that audiences got to know for 20 seasons.
Plus, there is also audio commentary for Ducky’s tribute episode. The commentary features NCIS star Brian Dietzen and Scott Williams, who co-wrote the episode together.
Disc 2 features four episodes: “Left Unsaid, “The Plan,” “Strange Invaders,” and “A Thousand Yards.” This disc has one special feature with actress and director Daniela Ruah, who starred as Kensi Blye in NCIS: Los Angeles and directed episodes of NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i.
The special feature for this disc, “Ruah’s Rules: Directing NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’l” provides viewers with a look into how Ruah worked behind the scenes on the episodes she was a part of for both shows.
The final disc includes the episodes “Heartless, “Prime Cut,” and “Reef Madness.” There are two special features for this disc, including one focused on stunts. The first special feature goes deep inside the season with “21 Seasons and Counting: An Inside Look At NCIS Season 21.” The second is called “NCIS in Action: Behind the Stunts.”
All in all, the DVD has plenty of fun behind-the-scenes looks into the making of the show, which goes for a runtime of 36 minutes. Plus, the episode runtime for all episodes is 7 hours, so you can binge season 21 in a day if you have some downtime or want to have it on in the background as you do daily tasks!
