NCIS season 21 finale preview: Could Knight be leaving for a new job?
The NCIS season finale is already here after a season filled with twists and turns for the special agents in D.C. It’s hard to believe it’s finished after only 10 episodes, but here we are!
When we last saw the team, they had looked into the murder of a marine who was living under a different name, disappearing after a plane crash. He had begun investigating illegal activities on the Texas ranch where he worked and the discovery he made led to his death. The investigation brought Jessica Knight and Nick Torres to Texas, leaving us with plenty of puns between the two of them.
There has been so much to learn about the characters in season 21, such as Nick’s past involving his mom’s conman ex, and we also got a tribute episode for Donald “Ducky” Mallard.
In a previous episode, we also met Jessica’s dad Feng Zhao (Russel Wong), the special agent in charge of the Far East NCIS field office. We learned that he had plans for Jessica to one day take over his position once he retired. Now it looks like this particular arc will come back, thanks to Director Leon Vance.
What to know about the NCIS season 21 finale
The finale airs May 6 at 9/8c on CBS. In the synopsis for “Reef Madness,” Vance will be offering Knight an opportunity for her career. While this new opportunity may not be with the Far East field office, it could still impact her professional and personal life if she decides to take it.
With Knight’s blossoming relationship with Jimmy Palmer, is a big career move something she is still interested in? In a previous episode, she talked about wanting to focus on her present with him. But with this new venture at the door now, how would a future between the two of them look?
Of course, in the middle of this, we can’t forget the case they will uncover, especially when it puts Knight and Alden Parker in danger. They had discovered three bodies on a navy ship that was being prepared to be turned into an artificial reef. Things get even worse when someone locks them inside the ship.
The promo for the episode doesn’t focus on the storyline with Knight’s career move, but it does preview her and Parker getting trapped. You can see the rest of the team trying to find their missing agents as they are struggling to figure out how to escape.
With all of this going on, Knight may have the chance to think further about what she wants for her future. If she wants to take a new job opportunity, how will this look for her and Jimmy? There will be tough decisions to be made and however things look at the end, we may see the impact of those decisions in season 22.
Whatever happens for them in the future, we’re looking forward to seeing how the episode ends. At least if it ends on a cliffhanger, we know the show will be back for another exciting season.
