The Ted series will be here before we know it. It’s time to see Seth MacFarlane’s talking bear back, and we’re expecting much of the same humor and antics.

Of course, as we get ready for a series based on a popular movie franchise, there is one big question. Do we need to watch the movies first? Whether you’ve seen them once before or not, you’ll want to know if you need to work your way through the movies before you even check out the series on Peacock.

There are two Ted movies starring Mark Wahlberg with MacFarlane voicing the crude teddy bear. You’ve got time to check them both out if you need to.

You can watch the Ted series without the movies

If, for some reason, you skipped the movies but you want to watch the show, there is some great news. You can check out the Ted series without watching the movies.

This is a prequel series. In fact, except for Seth MacFarlane, the main original cast isn’t coming back. We’re getting a new John Bennett and his parents. After all, it’s not like Wahlberg can convincingly play a 16-year-old!

The series takes us to high school. We get to see Ted after his star career has flopped and he needs to figure out life. He and John are working through all their firsts while they’re in high school, and this includes having sex for the very first time. At least, that’s what they want to achieve.

If you want to get an idea of what to expect in terms of comedy and crudeness in the series, then you’ll want to watch the show. There are sure to be some Easter eggs in the Peacock series as well, so it’s worth watching the movies to get ready for any of them to pop up. As for the overall story, though. You don’t really need to watch the movies to understand the show.
