Not Dead Yet season 2 has been an interesting one with the introduction of Lexi's father and owner of SoCal Independent Duncan Rhodes. With her dad here and the obvious complicated relationship between the two, I would have thought Lexi's storyline would have involved her and her dad trying to get closer and him realizing he's not the best father. Instead, we've been focused on the Lexi and Edward relationship which I still don't know how to feel about.

But anyways, we're going to see some big changes happening this evening as the second season finale comes our way. It's gone by so fast, but the second season is a total of 10 episodes due to the writers and actors strikes that happened in 2023. The Not Dead Yet season 2 finale airs tonight, April 24, 2024 starting at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC. This has been the show's time slot throughout the season, so you don't need to worry about tuning in at a different time.

Though be sure to make room for a longer night as we get a whole hour with the series! The comedy will run from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET because we're getting two back-to-back episodes serving as the grand finale of season 2. So what can we expect to see? We have some details ahead of the installment this evening!

First up is season 2 episode 9, "Not The End Yet." According to ABC, Nell find out that Duncan is planning to sell the newspaper. She decides to take "matters into her own hands to save her job" when it seems like Lexi isn't going to do anything about changing this decision. I mean, she has tried so hard to make the paper great for her father.

But since she's not getting that praise and attention from him, perhaps Lexi simply doesn't care anymore. And I can't blame her. Based on the promotional image above, Lexi really doesn't seem to be upset at all. Now what the plans are for the SoCal Independent with the potential new owner looks like, we don't know that yet.

Then in season 2 episode 10, "Not A Ghost Yet," starting at 9 p.m. ET, we're going to see Nell navigate an "unexpected incident" that will pause the sale of the newspaper. Will she be able to save her job, and so many others' before it's too late? Well if anyone can do it, it's definitely Nell! As shared in the image below, it looks like actor Malcolm Barrett is taking on the role of the potential buyer of SoCal.

Unfortunately there's no promo, but as mentioned and seen above, we do have a bunch of promotional images. It looks like in classic Nell fashion, she's not going to give up and is going to do all she can to save the paper. As you can see below, she's meeting with Barrett's character at Cricket's. And right behind her is her latest ghostly friend, played by actress Jennifer Lewis. Perhaps she can lend some spiritual assistance. Sam and Dennis will probably want to help Nell as well. Check out all the images below!

Renewal status: Is Not Dead Yet season 3 happening?

Right now it's not clear whether Not Dead Yet season 3 is happening. That's because ABC has not announced the renewal status of the show and whether it will be cancelled or renewed after season 2. Per Deadline, the comedy is "on the bubble," and the network has only renewed one comedy so far and that's Abbott Elementary season 4.

Though if we take a look at the viewership numbers, I think it's very likely that Not Dead Yet has a chance to be renewed for a third season. The second installment has been doing better than the first overall when it comes to people tuning in to new episodes. From the seventh episode and on in season 1, the range was between 2.09 million to a low 1.78 million for the finale.

However the show's sophomore season has held strong between 2.56 million in the premiere, with it slowly decreasing but still holding at 2.11 most recently for episode 8. So while the numbers have been decreasing, Not Dead Yet season 2 is still doing better than the first season. And depending on what else could be on the slate for comedies at the network, I think there's a good chance ABC will renew the series for a third season. Fingers crossed!

The two-episode Not Dead Yet season 2 finale airs tonight, April 24, 2024 starting at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
