Sadly, no, So Help Me Todd season 3 is not happening (and for a very disappointing reason)

All good things must eventually come to an end, but in the case of So Help Me Todd the end is coming far too early.
After just two seasons, CBS has decided not to renew the Skylar Astin and Marcia Gay Harden-led legal drama and to bring the show to an end. That’s right, there will be no third season of the dramedy which is an absolute shame as So Help Me Todd is unlike any other show on air.
The series is a legal drama, but it’s far from your normal case-of-the-week legal drama. Sure, there are cases of the week, but the show isn’t a straight-up law show. At its heart, it’s a story about family and the relationship between a mother and her son – one that is complicated and messy at times but that’s part of the magic. The pair are opposites in every way, but their unique differences are what make their pairing perfection and the credit goes to Harden and Astin for their magnetic chemistry.
This is a show that not only could have gone on for many more seasons but absolutely should have had the chance to. Instead, CBS canceled the series for the most disappointing of reasons.
Why did CBS cancel So Help Me Todd?
CBS ultimately canceled So Help Me Todd – as well as CSI: Vegas and NCIS: Hawaii - not because the shows had slipped in ratings but because they needed to make room for new series on the calendar. That’s right, the shows basically canceled because CBS needed to make what the network called “tough choices” and decided to cancel shows that were performing well in order to free up space for new series.
As CBS entertainment president Amy Reisenbach told reporters at CBS’s 2024 Upfront presentation, when all of its returning shows came back strong, the network had to ultimately cut some shows
“We had some tough choices this year. Everything came back very strong. There is a cohesive schedule, a flow,” Reisenbach said of the cancellation.
In its second season, So Help Me Todd maintained strong ratings and averaged 7.7 million total viewers in multiplatform Live+35. Typically, these ratings would be more than enough for a show to secure another season. However, So Help Me Todd ranked as one of the least-watched shows on CBS among the network’s non-sports programs.
Because CBS wanted to clear space for new series and all of its returning shows performed so well this season, the network canceled So Help Me Todd. It’s a shame because if the show was airing on any other network and putting up the ratings it has been on CBS, it would have been an easy renewal.
Sadly, it doesn’t seem like CBS has plans to move the shows to Paramount+ and they’re holding firm on the decision to cancel the show after two seasons. As such, the season 2 finale is going to be the final episode of the series though fans have continued to fight hard in hopes of convincing CBS to reconsider its decision.
