Special Forces: World's Toughest Test season 3 is not coming to FOX in 2024
By Sabrina Reed
FOX has a packed schedule for viewers come the fall which will be kicked off with an NFL doubleheader on Sunday, Sept. 8 followed up by the series premiere of the new animated show Universal Basic Guys. But, if you're a fan of Special Forces: World's Toughest Test, you're going to be in for a wait.
When the network first announced its slate, the celebrity social experiment was scheduled to debut its third season on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET after new episodes of Hell's Kitchen. However, now that we have premiere dates, it's clear that the series won't be returning in 2024. FOX confirmed as much in their press release. It's being held for the midseason.
A reason wasn't given for the turn about but it's likely the network wants to pair the show with a better lead-in. While Gordon Ramsay puts the contestants on his program through their paces, it's a cooking competition and not a survivalist or endurance series.
Special Forces: World's Toughest Test is all about having the participants challenge themselves by going through the rigorous and somewhat torturous selection process that real life Special Forces have endured. While it definitely can be described as hellish, the two series likely don't have much cross-audience potential.
That's why it makes sense that Crime Scene Kitchen season 3 has been slotted in as the show's replacement and will premiere with Hell's Kitchen season 23 on Thursday, Sept. 26. Based on what FOX has on offer come the midseason, the network's new survivalist competition series Extracted is the most likely candidate to be paired with the military style endurance series in 2025.
Not much is known about the program but it's been touted as "groundbreaking" due to its concept. In competition series, contestants have a general ability to decide what's going to happen to them. They're not in charge of the challenges or the tasks that they'll have to complete, and at any time there can be unforeseeable circumstances or injuries, but they make decisions for themselves and their fellow contestants. Extracted, however, is said to take their "destiny" out of their hands. We don't know what that means either, we'll keep you posted.
Special Forces: World's Toughest Test season 3 is rumored to have begun filming sometime in May. No cast members have been announced but there's been speculation on participants based on social media posts. We won't spoil that here, but it does let us know that FOX is gearing up to give us another nail-biting and brutal season.
