Steve Howey takes on the role of a biker who trades bike repairs for medical treatment in Brilliant Minds. When he goes to see Dr. Wolf for one reason, he learns that there is a much bigger issue.

Howey talked with us about guest-starring in the episode, and he teased a little of what’s to come for the character. We come across a man who goes to see Wolf for a gunshot wound, only to find out that he has something much more serious going on.

His character, Wyatt, is described as an alpha male, and that means he downplays a lot. However, Howey shares that there are things for everyone to learn when it comes to this storyline.

What to take from Wyatt in Brilliant Minds

The big thing about Wyatt is that he’s an alpha male. He shares that he has a tremor, but doesn’t think it’s that much of a big deal. We know from the promo that he struggles with memory loss. One minute something is there, and then it’s gone. Wolf is naturally intrigued. This means there’s something going on in the brain.

Howey makes it clear that it doesn’t matter how strong and tough you are on the outside, you can still be vulnerable. It’s important to remember that we’re all still human.

"Even though you’re a big strong, tough, motorcycle guy, you’re vulnerable. You still have people you love, and there’s people who love you. [It] doesn’t matter how tough you are in the exterior. You’re still human on the inside, and we’re all the same. We’re pretty identical, and hopefully, people relate to that."

Working with Zachary Quinto on Brilliant Minds

While we talked about Wyatt, the topic of working with Zachary Quinto came up. Howey shared how much he loved working with Quinto in the series, and it’s all because of Quinto’s work ethic and the energy he brings to the scenes.

"I was a fan of Zachary Quinto before, but I’m a huge fan after, because it was an absolute pleasure working with him. He’s a brilliant actor. He’s very intense. Lovely off-set, a good person."

That’s good to know for those who are struggling to find celebrities they can enjoy watching now with everything else going on and some secrets coming out!

Quinto is a theater actor as well as a screen one, and that’s something that shows up on set.

"It really made me think about wanting to do theater, because he was talking about theater with such passion, and obviously, you can see how he brings it to his work. What he’s learned and what he’s experienced; I just love the intensity and his desire to tell a story in a very powerful way. It was great to play tennis and hit the ball back and forth."

It’s important for Howey that someone is a good scene partner while on set. It doesn’t matter to him how someone acts off-set. It’s all about in the scene, because that affects everything else in a scene.

"If you’re not given it, it’s hard to give it back. There was a lot to work with and play with, so that was really enjoyable."

Howey does have an emotional episode in Brilliant Minds. It’s one of those that will leave you thinking about the choices you would make if it happened to you. The brain is a fascinating thing, and that’s probably why Brilliant Minds has pulled so many people in already.

Brilliant Minds airs Mondays at 10/9c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
