If you thought SWAT was finished taking our breath away, you would be mistaken. A cliffhanger at the end of the night had us completely speechless. But first, let’s find out what happened when the team tracked down three escaped fugitives from a prison transport van.

In the episode, Hondo, Tan, and Cabrera were on a hike when they got word that a prison transport van had crashed. Three inmates had escaped, leaving the team responsible for tracking them down.

They were able to find the first one, Diane Madden, after she made an attempt to flee with her young son. Once she was arrested, they went after Tina Carter, who tried to live a life in luxury before the team caught up with her.

At first, they thought they found the ones that were still in Los Angeles, except one. Jolene Jeffries was a serial killer who they thought was heading to Arizona. Instead, she went after an editor at a publishing house in Los Angeles.

Tina knew that Jolene had been angry about a true crime author writing a book about her. She was going after everyone associated with revenge, including a source who turned out to be her birth mother.

Eventually, the team was able to track Jolene down, who had taken her mother, Tamra, and her half-sister, Emily, hostage. They tried to talk her down, but when it didn’t work, Deacon shot through the garage door with Luca’s help to stop her.

Luca had returned from a counterterrorism training in London. He was thrilled to be back and at the same time, he was helping Kelly learn how to drive. However, things didn’t go too well when he lost his temper. But at the end of the day, he apologized and offered to take her out to eat.

In the meantime, Deacon had a big decision to make about work. With Annie going back to work, it made things more difficult when it came to getting the kids in an emergency. After spotting Annie working to help a mother keep her kids in a court case, he made his decision.

He told Annie that he would be willing to retire from SWAT, especially since things were going well at the security company and he wanted Annie to have her time to shine after making sacrifices for him and the kids. If this turns out to happen, it will be the second big exit of someone from the team after Street left to join Long Beach SWAT.

All in all, everything seemed perfect until the end. Just when Luca and Kelly arrived at the restaurant, they saw a robbery in progress. Luca pulled his gun but was shot multiple times, including in the chest.

Is this the end of the road for Dominique Luca? The promo certainly makes it look like he may not come out of this alive. We saw the doctor giving the team grim news and the final shot of Hondo made it look like they were at some sort of ceremony.

Hopefully, it is just a fakeout, but based on a previous statement from Kenny Johnson on his Instagram, that might not be the case. He referred to his exit as "bittersweet" so this could mean anything is possible.

No matter how this plays out, watching Dominique Luca over the years has been amazing. We’re going to have to wait a few weeks to find out what happened, unfortunately. The next episode to focus on this aspect of Luca’s exit storyline will air on Friday, April 5 on CBS.

Until we find out for sure what happened with Luca, you can watch previous episodes of SWAT on Paramount+. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote for more updates.
