The Bear is set to air on FX for the first time starting Sunday, June 2! The Emmy award winning series has been a critic darling since it made its debut on Hulu back in June 2022. Viewers, including myself, fell in love with the intensity of show creator Christopher Storer's storytelling that mixed the utter chaos and anxiety induced panic of the restaurant industry and dry, sarcastic wit of a foul-mouthed crew of chefs dealing with personal tragedy.

Now, FX's cable audience will get a taste of the series if they've yet to tune into Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto's quest to turn his family's restaurant, The Beef, into an eatery that fits his own vision now that it's been left to him. Joining him is Sydney Adamu, a chef who admires his work and has a similar understanding of the cutthroat industry Carmy made a name for himself in. As only the first season will be airing on FX, I'll only give away non-spoiler plot details about The Bear's freshman run.

While Carmy knows exactly how he wants to transform the restaurant, he's met with staunch resistance from his brother Mikey's best friend Richard "Richie" Jerimovich who wants everything to remain as Mikey had it before he died. The Beef's staff Tina Marrero, Marcus Brooks, Ebraheim, Gary "Sweeps" Woods, Angel, and Manny aren't jazzed about Carmy's changes to their workstyle either even though his goal is to elevate the eatery or at the bare minimum get it in working order and not so greasy. Besides Sydney, there's at least one person on his side, his sister Natalie "Sugar" Berzatto who'd rather have no part in the business but alas she'll do what she can for family.

Age rating

The Bear is an FX series so the TV-MA rating is no surprise, however, there are story elements viewers should have noted. MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD FROM THIS POINT.

Aside from the strong language, including pejoratives, throughout the program--as well as smoking and alcohol consumption--the series deals heavily with Carmy's trauma over the loss of his brother along with the verbal and emotional abuse he suffered while working in a Michelin-starred restaurant. The Beef is also a toxic workplace and the tension in the eatery can rise to an uncomfortable pitch. While these elements are often balanced with humor, it may be overwhelming or distressing for some viewers. There's discussion of suicide and its impact on those left behind as well.
