The summer season is something we all look forward to for many reasons. From time off work to vacations, it's a time for fun! But if you're a lover of movies, summer is a particularly great time, and summer 2024 is no exception!

Temperatures are just beginning to heat up, but Hollywood is already teasing us with an excellent selection of upcoming movies. There's something for everybody, whether you enjoy sci-fi, horror, or are searching for a movie to watch with the kiddos. Below, we are sharing five movies we are the most excited about so you don't miss a thing.

Before we kick things off, please note that our list of movies begins with May 2024 releases. We know that, technically, the first day of summer 2024 is June 20, but the "summer season" starts in May for many since schools go on break across the nation. That said, we list movies that are coming out in the months of May, June, and July.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

Premiere Date:

May 10

Cast:

Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand

Quick Synopsis:

Many decades after Caesar's rule, the world now belongs to the apes.

I will be the first to admit that I am not as excited about Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes as most fans are. I truly only enjoyed the first installment. If you want my two cents, it's time to let this franchise go and try again next decade. But if you're a fan and super excited about the upcoming movie, I don't blame you too much. The storytelling has always been interesting and well-done.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes takes place several decades after Caesar's reign. To say that a lot of things have changed is an understatement. The world as we know it now belongs to the apes as humans are the minority and are forced to live in the shadows. The movie stars Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, and more. Fans are really going to want to kick off their summer with this movie that opens in theaters on May 10.

IF

Premiere Date:

May 17

Cast:

Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Fiona Shaw

Quick Synopsis:

A young girl is on a mission to rescue IFs (Imaginary Friends) who have been abandoned.

There's too much fantasy in the upcoming movie IF for my taste, but I'm including it on this list because there's no denying this is a highly anticipated feature for many. Not to mention, I think it will be the most wholesome movie of summer 2024 (sorry, Deadpool). Another big plus is that IF features a star-studded cast that includes Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Fiona Shaw, Cailey Fleming, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Steve Carell, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Maya Rudolph, Awkwafina.

IF follows the story of a young girl with a wild imagination who can see IF's (Imaginary Friends) who have been abandoned by their creators. The movie stretches its audience's imagination while sharing a story of friendship. See it in theaters on May 17.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Premiere Date:

May 24

Cast:

Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke

Quick Synopsis:

In the

Not caught up on the action-packed adventure film? It's okay. To be honest, neither am I. Though it would be so much better if you caught up on the movies for the experience, it is absolutely not necessary. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is set to feature well-paced storytelling for both loyal fans and new eyes. The George Miller movie follows the story of Furiosa's kidnapping. The movie is both a prequel and spin-off. Catch the action in theaters on May 24.

A Quiet Place: Day One

Premiere Date:

June 28

Cast:

Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff

Quick Synopsis:

Audiences will get to see how the alien invasion started in the brightest and loudest city in the country, New York City.

Tired of prequels? I'm not! Sure, they may not all be winners, but when they're good, they're great! And A Quiet Place: Day One is looking great from what we've seen so far. The movie is going to take audiences back to when it all started, but this time, we're headed to New York, the city of lights and, well, loud noise. The people of New York are being attacked by aliens and they have to adapt and learn quickly how to avoid the creatures and what triggers them.

At the center of the movie is one of my favorite actresses, Lupita Nyongo'o, who has proven to be a great horror actress. When A Quiet Place: Day One arrives on June 28, you bet I'll be the first in line.

Despicable Me 4

Premiere Date:

July 3

Cast:

Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove

Quick Synopsis:

Get ready to meet the newest member of the Minions family, baby Gru Jr.!

Gru and his adorable and mischievous Minions are back! What? Another movie? Aren't there enough movies about these guys? Well, if you ask my five-year-old, no, no there are not. But let's be honest, these movies are so fun! They are highly entertaining and guaranteed to keep your child interested. It also helps that the movies always throw parents a line or two that only adults understand.

Steve Carell is back to voice his iconic animated role of Gru. Also back is Gru's original crew which includes Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, Elsie Fisher, and Kristen Wiig. And be prepared to meet a new member of the family, baby Gru Jr. As far as family movies go, I think Despicable Me 4 is going to be the movie of the summer.

Deadpool and Wolverine

Premiere Date:

July 28

Cast:

Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman

Quick Synopsis:

Deadpool is back, and he's brought a friend with one bad temper.

The upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine movie is what cinema dreams are made of! At least, that's the case if you're a huge fan of the heroes. Not to mention, this movie has been in the making for a long while. We're glad it's finally coming to the big screen. The first teaser trailer (which premiered) during the Super Bowl looks very promising, even if it only barely teases Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). We can't wait to see Jackman once again take on the role of Logan aka Wolverine after retiring from portraying the character after the movie Logan. The movie will also star Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, and Rob Delaney.

Which of these movies are you the most excited to see?
