The First Omen rating: Here's why the movie is rated R
By Sandy C.
A classic horror franchise is back with an all-new chapter, The First Omen. This time, audiences will be taken back in time to where it all began as the movie serves as the prequel to the original 1976 movie, The Omen.
If everyone in your family enjoys spooks and thrills, you may be excited about The First Omen, but this is not a movie you want children to watch. Not only is it rated R, but it received this rating for good reason! Curious about triggers or why The First Omen is rated R? We've got your back!
First, what is the movie all about? In The First Omen, audiences meet Margaret (Nell Tiger Free), a young nun who is sent to a convent in Rome. Margaret hopes to start her service to the church in the seemingly perfect convent. Unfortunately, shortly after arriving, Margaret feels like something is not right, but she never imagined the sinister truth, discovering there are plans to welcome evil incarnate with the Antichrist. The movie also stars Tawfeek Barhom, Sonia Braga, Ralph Ineson, Bill Nighy, and others.
And now for the rating, The First Omen is rated R for brief graphic nudity, violent content, and disturbing images. For many parents, brief language may be fine, but the line is draw when it comes to nudity and sexual content. The First Omen may not feature the latter, but "graphic nudity"? That's going to be a no. Violent content is also not something we want to expose young eyes to.
From 20th Century Studios, The First Omen is in theaters on Friday, April 5, with a runtime of approximately two hours. This is the sixth movie in the horror franchise, with the first dating back to 1976. Even though I'm always skeptical when it comes to prequels, I have to say the trailer for The First Omen looks very promising! If you have not checked it out, watch below!
For starters, the horror is in good hands with Nell Tiger Free. The actress starred in the Apple TV+ series Servant, a psychologist horror. That said, the star is no stranger to the genre.
Will you be watching The First Omen in theaters on Friday, April 5, or will you be waiting for the streaming release? There are no details on when or where it will stream after it leaves the big screen, but we'll be sure to keep you posted as soon as we learn anything!
